The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for the planning, directing, and provision of nursing care to patients in accordance with the N.H. Nurse Practice Act, recognized nursing techniques, and both clinical and administrative policies. SPECIFIC ELEMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Performs a thorough assessment in accordance with unit standards and or patient condition, and based on this assessment, plans and implements care appropriately. 2. Provides monitoring/assessment of the patient receiving conscious sedation in accordance with policy. 3. Performs circulating duties according to procedure, demonstrating skill and efficiency, displaying the surgical consciousness required within this highly specialized environment. 4. Performs scrub duties according to surgical protocol. 5. Demonstrates ability to properly utilize all equipment for specific procedures or seeks appropriate resource. 6. Assumes responsibility for knowledge of surgical procedures and associated nursing care. Seeks appropriate resource when necessary. 7. Provides communication/visits peri-operatively to the patient's family and or significant other. 8. Demonstrates self-direction above and beyond daily assignments and actively offers assistance to colleagues both within the main OR's, cardiac OR's and various other surgical services units. 9. Demonstrates ability to accurately and thoroughly complete peri-operative nursing record documentation, i.e. surgical site confirmation, patient identification verification. 10. Demonstrates collegially behavior of respect and consideration with regard to work environment, i.e. restocking rooms, returning equipment/supplies for other surgical procedures, cleaning work areas/station and or communicate as appropriate.
