Senior Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligible applicants must submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amounts (up to $200,000) and eligibility periods (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Qualifications United States Citizenship; non‑citizens only if no qualified citizens are available. English language proficiency. Proficient in spoken and written English (VA Handbook 5005). Master’s or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, or a related field accredited by CACREP. Full, current, unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, including diagnosis and treatment. Experience: At least one year of progressively complex LPMHC experience for GS‑12, five years of post‑licensed experience for Senior LPMHCs with supervisory qualifications. Advanced knowledge of theories and modalities for complex mental illness and ability to apply them in assessment, treatment planning, and supervision. Ability to conduct individual, group, and family counseling; coordinate psychosocial services; design system changes; provide consultation and mentorship; communicate with stakeholders. Physical requirements: None beyond what can be accommodated in the workplace. Duties Provide direct counseling services, outreach, referral, and follow‑up care coordination to eligible patients and families. Coordinate client care and staff development, including expert clinical consultation on complex psychosocial conditions. Implement direct readjustment counseling using family systems theory/therapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups. Conduct risk assessment, crisis intervention, safety planning, and complex treatment planning. Maintain communication with inter‑professional teams and leadership, model ethical professional behaviors, and promote multicultural awareness. Serve on committees, work groups, and task forces at various levels. Act as clinical consultant to outreach workers to improve client transition. Assist in clinical and administrative oversight, documentation, screening, assessment, and counseling planning. Provide clinical supervision, consultation, training, review, and evaluation to staff and trainees toward licensure. Participate in staff meetings for team building and staff development. Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice. Work Schedule and Telework Monday–Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm; some nights and weekends may be required.
