Neonatal Physician / Neonatologist (MD/DO)The Neonatal Physician provides comprehensive medical care to newborn infants, including premature and critically ill neonates. This role focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of neonatal conditions in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and newborn nursery, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary care teams to deliver high-quality, family-centered care.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide direct medical care to newborns in the NICU, special care nursery, and well-baby nurseryEvaluate and manage premature, critically ill, and medically complex neonatesDiagnose and treat neonatal conditions including respiratory distress, sepsis, congenital anomalies, metabolic disorders, and feeding difficultiesPerform and supervise neonatal procedures consistent with training and privileges, including intubation, vascular access, and resuscitationLead and participate in multidisciplinary rounds and care planningCollaborate with obstetrics, pediatric subspecialists, nursing staff, respiratory therapy, and allied health professionalsAttend high-risk deliveries and provide neonatal resuscitation as requiredCommunicate effectively with families regarding clinical status, treatment plans, and prognosisEnsure accurate, timely clinical documentationParticipate in quality improvement, patient safety, and NICU performance initiativesSupervise and educate residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff as applicableComply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standardsQualificationsDoctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an accredited pediatrics residency programCompletion of an accredited neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship (for neonatologist roles)Board-eligible or board-certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine or Pediatrics, as applicableAbility to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensureDEA registration or eligibilityNeonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificationSkills and CompetenciesExpertise in neonatal and perinatal medicineStrong clinical judgment and decision-making skills in high-acuity settingsAbility to manage critically ill neonates and rapidly changing clinical situationsExcellent communication and family counseling skillsCommitment to evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and patient safetyWork EnvironmentNeonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), special care nursery, and newborn nurseryShift-based or call-based scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidaysPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand and move throughout NICU and hospital environmentsManual dexterity for neonatal procedures and resuscitationVisual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient monitoring and emergency responseMust maintain state certification and/or licensure.
