Customer Support Engineer

Location: Minneapolis, MN (Onsite / Field-Based) Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent Department: Customer Support & Engineering Travel: Moderate to high travel to industrial client sites About the Role At Blueprint, we engineer advanced membrane technologies that transform industrial chemical processes. We are looking for an analytical, hands-on Customer Support Engineer to serve as the critical bridge between our engineering design teams and our plant-floor operations. Reporting to the Head of Customer Support, you will spend your time in the field and at the desk: troubleshooting complex continuous operations, analyzing process trend data, commissioning new membrane systems, and building lasting trust with client operations teams. Core Responsibilities Plant Support & Field Troubleshooting: Serve as the first-line technical expert for operating membrane installations across ethanol, chemical, and refining facilities. Diagnose operating anomalies, optimize runtime, and propose practical process modifications. Commissioning & Startup: Lead and assist in the physical commissioning, startup, and validation testing of new membrane separation skids on-site. Process Data Analytics: Collect, normalize, and interpret plant operating data (pressures, flux rates, temperatures, mass balances) to assess membrane health, predict replacement cycles, and report actionable insights back to clients and internal design teams. Operator Training & Technical Enablement: Develop clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), manuals, and hands‑on training sessions to empower plant operators, shift leads, and plant managers. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with process design, detailed engineering, and commercial teams to feed field observations back into future product iterations and identify expansion opportunities. Spares & Lifecycle Management: Oversee membrane cartridge inventory tracking, coordinating timely replacements and RMA/refurbishment workflows to minimize customer downtime. Safety & Brand Representation: Champion safety protocols across all field environments and represent Blueprint at key technical conferences and industry trade shows. What You Bring to the Team Education: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (or closely related engineering discipline). Experience: 1–5 years of hands‑on process or operations experience within continuous processing facilities (e.g., ethanol, specialty chemicals, biofuels, petrochemicals, or food/beverage processing). Unit Operations Literacy: Strong foundational grasp of heat and material balances, fluid dynamics, and common plant hardware—including pumps, heat exchangers, instrumentation, and distillation systems. Client & Communication Strengths: High EQ with the clarity and patience needed to navigate fast‑paced industrial plant environments and resolve customer issues constructively. Data Fluency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for performance trend analysis and baseline data modeling. Mobility: Willingness and adaptability to travel to customer facilities, laboratories, and partner sites as needed. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with membrane separations, pervaporation, or vapor permeation technology. Direct familiarity with dry‑mill or wet‑mill corn ethanol plant operations.
