Shift Lead | Legendary Eats (Potbelly Sandwich Shop)

Location: New Hyde Park, NY | Reports to: General Manager | Hourly, non-exempt

Pay: $20 to $22per hour plus tips [+ quarterly bonus eligibility, if applicable]


Who We Are

Legendary Eats is a locally owned company building Potbelly Sandwich Shops across Long Island and Queens. We're opening our first shop in New Hyde Park and growing from there. We pay above market because we believe great shops are built by great people, and we promote from within as we grow.

The Role

When the GM isn't in the building, you run the shop. You lead the crew, take care of guests, and hand off a shift that's clean, stocked, and on budget. This is a hands-on role: you'll work the line alongside your team, not just watch it.

What You Own on Every Shift

Running the Shift

Open, transition, and close the shop without supervision

Set the line, assign positions and side work, and adjust as volume changes

Hold the standard on product quality and back-of-house procedures

Jump on the line whenever the shift needs you

Leading the Team

Train, coach, and give real-time feedback to crew

Know and follow our people policies, labor law requirements, and break rules

Set the tone: Great Food and Good Vibes, every shift

Taking Care of Guests

Make sure every guest leaves happy, and give your crew the authority to make that happen

Resolve complaints on the spot

Execute in-shop marketing and promotions

Protecting the Numbers

Manage labor, food cost, and waste against the shift plan

Count drawers and follow cash handling procedures exactly

Execute all safe, security, and open/close procedures

Keeping It Safe

Own food safety on your shift: temps, logs, sanitation, allergen handling

Where This Goes

We're building toward 15 shops. Shift Leads who perform are first in line for Assistant Manager and General Manager roles, and our GMs are on a path to multi-unit leadership.

What You Bring

Required

1+ year of supervisory experience in a restaurant or retail environment [or 1+ year of QSR experience with demonstrated leadership]

Availability for opening, mid, and closing shifts, including weekends

Food safety certification required by your shop's county, completed within 30 days of hire. For New Hyde Park, that's the Nassau County Department of Health exam. [We cover the cost.]

English communication skills sufficient to train crew, read procedures, and complete shift paperwork

High school diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements

Stand and walk for most of an 8 to 9 hour shift

Lift up to 10 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally

Bend, reach, carry, and use a POS and tablet

Work in a fast, loud kitchen with temperature swings

Work around common allergens, including peanuts, eggs, dairy, gluten, soy, fish, and shellfish
