Pharmaceutical Packaging Equipment Technician (cGMP)

Location: Philadelphia, PA

A day in this role

You arrive on the production floor, review the schedule, and ready the packaging lines for a full day of commercial and clinical batches. You complete a planned PM, verify documentation, and lead a quick huddle with fellow mechanics. Mid-morning, a sensor fault triggers a stop—you diagnose the electrical, mechanical, and control components, contact the vendor for a part number, and get the line running with minimal downtime. After lunch, you switch gears to a format changeover on a bottle line, record the setup parameters, and brief packaging management on equipment performance and status. Before clocking out, you complete Master Control trainings and confirm PMs are logged to cGMP standards.

What you’ll do

• Partner with management to prioritize and achieve department goals in a team-first environment.
• Provide direction and support to other mechanics when needed.
• Ensure packaging assets are maintained; perform and document monthly PMs.
• Act as primary troubleshooter on department equipment; engage vendors when issues arise.
• Diagnose failures across electrical, electronic, and mechanical components.
• Build and execute preventive maintenance to maximize uptime.
• Complete setups and changeovers per production schedule.
• Keep packaging leadership informed on equipment health, issues, and progress.
• Assist with installation, commissioning, and debugging of new or modified equipment.
• Follow SOPs, cGMP, and safety procedures; maintain compliant documentation.
• Complete required trainings in Master Control.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What you bring

• High school diploma or technical school certificate, plus 5+ years as a GMP Packaging Mechanic.
• Hands-on experience as a bottle or blister packaging mechanic (one of these is required).
• Clear communication skills: read and interpret instructions and correspondence; write reports/memos; present information effectively.
• Solid math: add, subtract, multiply, divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Practical problem-solving: follow detailed written/oral directions and apply sound judgment.

• Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle tools and controls; reaching with hands/arms; periods of sitting. Occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; talking or hearing.

• Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, twist, reach overhead, and bend to floor level.
• Capability to wear a respirator when working with chemicals of specified potency.
• Move items/equipment up to 50 lbs; heavier materials handled with mechanical assistance.
• Occasional climbing of ladders/steps to access equipment.
• Read precision measuring tools, dials, gauges, and thermometers; observe fine details using a microscope.
