Coding Specialist II - Profee Cardiology [Remote]

This fully remote role supports accurate, compliant professional-fee coding within a healthcare revenue cycle environment.
You will review clinical documentation and translate diagnoses and procedures into precise ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
Your work will directly contribute to accurate billing, reimbursement, data integrity, and regulatory compliance.
The role requires strong attention to clinical detail and the ability to interpret complex medical documentation.
You will collaborate with internal teams, client staff, and providers when clarification or coding guidance is needed.
Success requires consistently high coding quality while meeting productivity and client-specific standards.

Accountabilities

• Clinical coding and documentation: Review clinical records and accurately select and sequence ICD-10, CPT, and/or HCPCS codes for assigned professional-fee and other designated patient types, ensuring coding reflects documented diagnoses and procedures.
• Data abstraction and validation: Analyze documentation to confirm that diagnoses, procedures, discharge information, and other relevant clinical data are adequately supported and accurately abstracted.
• Coding compliance: Apply current coding guidelines, government regulations, payer requirements, and client-specific standards to maintain accurate and compliant coding practices.
• Quality and production: Consistently achieve required quality thresholds, including a 95% coding accuracy standard, while meeting established production expectations and client requirements.
• Client support: Serve as a coding resource for client staff and providers by clarifying documentation, supporting appropriate provider queries, and helping resolve coding or data-integrity questions.
• Confidentiality: Protect patient and provider information and maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and applicable privacy requirements.
• Collaboration and communication: Participate in client meetings, internal meetings, training sessions, and conference calls as required, communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Professional development: Maintain current knowledge of coding systems, regulations, guidelines, and industry practices while completing continuing education and maintaining professional credentials.

Requirements

• Professional credentials: Hold an active AHIMA credential such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCA, or an active AAPC credential such as COC, CCS-P, CPC, or a related specialty certification.
• Relevant experience: Bring at least two years of recent, hands-on medical coding experience, ideally within an active production coding environment.
• Cardiology and coding knowledge: Demonstrate strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS code sets.
• Quality focus: Ability to consistently meet a 95% quality threshold while maintaining applicable client and production standards.
• Technology skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Word, and Excel, including the ability to enter, sort, and filter data.
• Healthcare education: An associate degree in Health Information Management or a healthcare-related discipline is preferred; equivalent education and relevant professional experience may also be considered.
• Systems experience: Familiarity with platforms such as Rcx, Cerner, or Optum is an advantage.
• Communication and judgment: Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external customers.
• Assessment requirement: Successful completion of a pre-employment coding skills assessment is required.
