Overview

The Experienced Electrical Apprentice assists licensed electricians with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, wiring, equipment, and fixtures in commercial and residential settings. The Electrical Apprentice performs electrical work under the supervision and direction of appropriately licensed electricians and in accordance with applicable Massachusetts laws, regulations, electrical codes, and company safety procedures. Massachusetts regulates electrical practice through the Board of State Examiners of Electricians.

This position is intended for an apprentice who has prior hands-on electrical experience and is continuing to develop the practical skills, knowledge, education, and experience necessary to progress in the electrical trade.

Essential Functions

Assists with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical wiring, systems, equipment, and fixtures in commercial and residential buildings.

Installs conduit, raceways, boxes, supports, and related electrical materials as directed by a licensed electrician.

Pulls, routes, and assists with the termination of electrical conductors and cables.

Assists with the installation of circuit breakers, panels, switches, receptacles, lighting, and other electrical devices and equipment.

Uses appropriate hand tools, power tools, meters, and testing equipment in the performance of assigned work.

Assists with testing and troubleshooting electrical systems and equipment.

Identifies electrical or safety concerns and reports them to the supervising licensed electrician.

Performs work in accordance with applicable electrical codes, safety requirements, job specifications, and company policies.

Maintains tools, materials, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition.

Accurately records work performed and other information as required by the company or applicable apprenticeship requirements.

Works cooperatively with licensed electricians, other apprentices, project managers, customers, and other trades.

Performs other related duties as assigned and appropriate to the employee's level of training, experience, and supervision.

Minimum Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Prior electrical apprenticeship or hands-on electrical construction experience required.

Must meet all applicable Massachusetts requirements for performing electrical work as an apprentice.

Working knowledge of electrical systems, wiring methods, materials, and electrical construction practices.

Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, meters, and other equipment commonly used in the electrical trade.

Ability to read or develop proficiency in reading blueprints, electrical drawings, and specifications.

Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under the direction and supervision of licensed electricians.

Strong attention to safety, quality, and detail.

Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.

Reliable attendance and the ability to report to assigned job sites as required.

Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Apprenticeship and Licensing

The employee must maintain any registration, identification, enrollment, documentation, or other requirements applicable to the employee's apprenticeship and work performed in Massachusetts. The employee is responsible for participating in required education and training applicable to their apprenticeship and for maintaining accurate records necessary for progression toward licensure.  Massachusetts' Division of Apprentice Standards oversees Registered Apprenticeship programs, and registered programs combine employment, on-the-job training, and related technical instruction. Registered apprenticeship sponsors are also subject to Massachusetts DAS standards and applicable federal and state apprenticeship requirements.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and work in various positions for extended periods.

Ability to safely climb and work from ladders and other approved elevated work surfaces.

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, materials, and equipment consistent with the requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments and in varying weather and job-site conditions.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the position safely, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Pay Range: $18.00 to $30.00 per hour

Actual compensation within the posted range will be based on legitimate, job-related factors such as the candidate's electrical experience, apprenticeship progress, demonstrated skills, qualifications, and other permissible factors.
