Qualifications

• Education: Master's Degree from an accredited physical therapy program.
• Experience: Experience working directly with patients in a long-term care or hospital setting.
• Licenses/Certifications: Current Physical Therapist state license and Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Position Summary

A Physical Therapist plans and implements rehabilitation programs to assist patients in regaining a higher level of physical function following an accident or surgery. This role also involves managing or alleviating pain associated with degenerative conditions or terminal illnesses. Physical Therapists employ a combination of physical activity, reflexology, massage, and manipulation of muscles and bones. The Physical Therapist collaborates with speech therapists and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes, with an emphasis on outpatient care.

Responsibilities

• Consult with patients to understand their physical conditions and symptoms, while reviewing their medical history and referrals from healthcare providers.
• Diagnose movement dysfunction by listening to patients and observing them in motion.
• Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to patients' needs.
• Coach and teach patients therapeutic exercises and stretches to enhance their condition.
• Administer hands-on therapy, including massage, to alleviate pain and encourage healing.
• Maintain detailed documentation regarding patient conditions, care plans, therapies, and progress.
• Communicate patient progress and current status to relevant parties, including family members, healthcare providers, and members of the patient care committee.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Professional Communication

• Maintain confidentiality regarding patient, family, staff, and work environment matters.
• Engage with patients and families from diverse developmental and sociocultural backgrounds.
• Provide information to patients and families to alleviate anxiety while demonstrating acceptance, sensitivity, and compassion.
• Maintain professional relationships and share relevant information with other healthcare team members and referral agencies.
• Initiate communication with peers and patient care providers about clinical care priorities.
• Effectively relay information via telephone, pagers, and other communication devices.
• Address security concerns regarding medical, nursing, and healthcare worker environments with supervisors as necessary.

Teamwork

• Accept assignments based on priorities, competencies, and unit needs.
• Collaborate closely with other care providers to complete tasks and provide clinical assistance as needed.
• Report on patient conditions to those who require this information, including physicians, nurses, and other staff.
• Utilize problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to encourage effective work relationships with peers.
• Arrive for work on time and adhere to scheduled shifts.

Professional Development

• Participate in in-services, continuing education, and departmental meetings.
• Contribute to the annual evaluation of peer performance as requested by supervisors or management.

Shift Information

• 8 or 9 hours per day, 4 days per week.
• Holiday coverage may be required.

Minimum Experience Requirement

• Less than 1 year of experience is acceptable.
