Electronics Technician

Category Manufacturing Description The Electronics Technician performs electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical testing, troubleshooting, repair, and documentation activities on KMC Controls products, assemblies, subassemblies, and components. The position supports product quality, manufacturing performance, engineering investigations, and the resolution of production or customer-returned product issues. Position Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Review work orders, test schedules, test procedures, specifications, wiring diagrams, schematics, drawings, and other controlled documents to determine required test methods and equipment. Conduct functional and electrical testing of electronic assemblies and finished products to verify compliance with specifications and determine the cause of product failures. Perform testing under specified environmental conditions, which may include temperature variation, vibration, pressure, and humidity. Set up, operate, verify, and calibrate test instruments and equipment in accordance with applicable procedures and specifications. Read and interpret test measurements, including voltage, current, frequency, resistance, distortion, inductance, and capacitance. Compare test results with established specifications; accurately record numerical, graphical, repair, inspection, and test data in required systems and documents. Troubleshoot electronic assemblies and finished products to component or circuit level and complete approved repairs or rework. Develop, modify, or maintain test programs, test methods, fixtures, and equipment as assigned. Build and maintain production test fixtures as directed by Manufacturing Engineering or Engineering. Evaluate nonstandard products and customer-returned units; document findings and recommend product, process, or testing improvements. Collaborate with engineers, technicians, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, supervisors, and production employees to resolve testing and manufacturing issues. Assist with improving production yields, reducing recurring defects, and supporting corrective-action activities. Create or update test, repair, inspection, and training procedures, including soldering-related training materials when assigned. Use ERP software, company test software, and other approved systems to complete production, testing, repair, and documentation requirements. Follow ESD controls, safety procedures, quality requirements, work instructions, and KMC Controls policies at all times. Immediately report conditions that could compromise employee safety, product quality, equipment, or compliance. Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associate degree in electronics, electrical engineering technology, or a related technical field; or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience. At least one year of related electronics testing, troubleshooting, repair, or manufacturing experience is preferred. Experience reading electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and technical specifications. Experience using digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators, and related electronic test equipment. IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, soldering, or related electronics certifications are preferred but not required unless assigned by KMC Controls.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Working knowledge of analog and digital electronic circuits, components, soldering, inspection, and troubleshooting methods. Ability to follow controlled procedures and accurately document test results, defects, repairs, and corrective actions. Ability to identify patterns, analyze test data, and apply sound technical judgment to standardized and nonstandard problems. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with employees across Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing. Ability to organize work, manage multiple priorities, and complete assignments with limited supervision. Ability to use computers and learn KMC Controls software, Epicor, and electronic test applications. KMC product knowledge expectation: Level 3 - Proficient, or the ability to achieve that level through assigned training and experience.

LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL, AND REASONING SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, correspondence, drawings, schematics, and test procedures; document findings; and present information effectively in one-on-one and small-group settings. Ability to perform arithmetic using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios, and basic algebra as needed for testing and analysis. Ability to apply practical and technical reasoning to diagnose problems involving multiple variables and determine appropriate next steps.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of the position. While performing the job, the employee regularly sits; uses hands and fingers to handle components, tools, controls, and test equipment; reaches with hands and arms; and communicates with others. The employee is frequently required to stand or walk and may remain standing while operating certain equipment. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to inspect small electronic components and solder connections. WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed primarily in an electronics laboratory and manufacturing environment. The employee may work near moving mechanical equipment and may occasionally be exposed to soldering fumes, flux, cleaning agents, or airborne particles. Appropriate engineering controls and personal protective equipment must be used as required. ESD protective practices are required in designated areas. The noise level is generally moderate.
