Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking experienced Critical Care Registered Nurses (RNs) to join our dynamic team. Ideal candidates will have a strong foundation in critical care settings, with an emphasis on providing high-quality patient care.

Unit Information

• 12-bed CVICU
• 8-bed COVID ICU
• 8-bed Medical Surgical ICU
• 16-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) (up to 20 with double occupancy rooms)

Nurse to Patient Ratios

The nursing ratio will be:

• ICU: 1:1-2 based on patient acuity/staffing levels
• PCU: 1:3-4

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Common Diagnoses and Patient Types

• COPD, DKA, Sepsis
• Post-surgical patients including open-heart
• Patients requiring advanced monitoring (EVD, VAD, IABP)
• Management of various critical care scenarios

Required Skills and Experience

• Proven experience with IABP and Prismaflex CRRT
• Proficiency in EKG reading and interpretation
• Ability to wean and troubleshoot ventilators
• Experience across all care areas, including ICU and PCU

Charge Nurse and House Supervisor Responsibilities

Charge nurses manage patient assignments primarily as a last resort and oversee rapid response and code blue scenarios. House supervisors are available 24/7 to support staffing and operations.

Shift and Scheduling

• Shifts: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Schedules are created 4 weeks in advance, with opportunities for some self-scheduling
• Weekend requirement: 4 shifts per pay period
• Holiday requirement: 1 winter holiday shift and one holiday eve shift

Orientation and Training

Orientation includes an 8-hour general hospital orientation and two 12-hour shifts on the unit with experienced preceptors and buddies for support.

Essential Equipment & Monitoring

Nurses are expected to be familiar with and proficient in using critical care equipment, including:

• Ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP
• Glidescopes for intubation

Location

Opportunities available in multiple locations within the region, including significant urban centers.

Cancellation Policy

The cancellation policy allows for four shifts per contract; reduced to three shifts for contracts under 13 weeks.

Charting System

The charting system utilized is Cerner.

Division and Trauma Level

This role falls under the acute care division with a comprehensive trauma care level.
