Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Bangor, ME Variable Days: Monday to Friday 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM, with rotational weekends. Department: Management Lab Admin. Quest Diagnostics is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist II in Bangor, ME. This role is a hospital-based position at Northern Lights Hospital. Pay range: Minimum of \$32.17 per hour. Salary offers are based on factors including skills, training, experience, education, certifications, market and organizational factors. Responsibilities Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity requiring independent judgment and responsibility in specialties in which the applicant is qualified. Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot instruments and procedures in the department. Provide support in quality control, troubleshooting of complex problems, customer support, instrument maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and completion of special projects. Perform and report assigned analytical tests according to SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met. Actively support and comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance. Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time of results, including STATs or critical results. Ensure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and, if applicable, opened dates. Perform and document QC analysis to verify clinical data accuracy and instrument function, making QC decisions about assay or test disposition. Inform supervisory personnel of all problems affecting test procedures. Report any actual or potential deviations from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate fully with investigations. Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reporting to physicians. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition. Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate. Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel. Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work‑practice controls as directed by management. Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed. Assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor if qualified and delegated. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Work Experience One (1) year full‑time experience or training in high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting. Preferred Work Experience Minimum of 3 years clinical experience, most recent within present department. Physical and Mental Requirements Lifting and carrying objects up to 10 lb frequently; 11‑25 lb occasionally; 36‑50 lb seldom; over 50 lb without assistance. Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods. Frequent walking and/or standing. Use of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments requiring significant dexterity. Knowledge Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in the designated specialty. Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology, or Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433. Foreign‑educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF; U.S. candidates must provide original transcript. Other state‑specific requirements may apply; check with local HR or QA departments. Skills Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills. Detail‑oriented, ability to work independently, establish priorities, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Interpersonal skills to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors, co‑workers and clients. Communication skills for handling telephone inquiries. Confidential handling of client information. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems. Education Associate’s Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (preferred). Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry (preferred). Licenses and Certifications ASCP Certification (preferred).
