Assistant Professor of Health and Sports Science (Tenure Track) The Health and Sports Science (HSS) department at Averett University invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position beginning August2026. The role is on‑site at Averett’s Main campus in Danville, Virginia. Candidate will teach both introductory and upper‑level undergraduate courses in the areas of Sports Administration, Coaching, Health, and Exercise Science. The successful hire will provide 24 credit hours of instruction per academic year and be expected to contribute to the department’s scholarship and service missions. Key Responsibilities Teach courses, including classroom instruction, course preparation, curriculum development, and assessment. Advising students, participating in department, university, and campus‑wide committees, maintaining office hours, and collaborating productively with colleagues. Connect students to experiential learning opportunities such as service learning, internships, and undergraduate research. Commit to the academic success of all students and foster an inclusive environment that respects diversity. Qualifications Ph.D. in Sports Administration, Coaching, Health and Exercise Science, or a closely related field. Applicants with a master’s degree and relevant teaching experience may be considered for an Instructor appointment. Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. Ability to mentor students and provide experiential and service‑learning opportunities. Professional experience outside academia may enhance a candidate’s application.
