Extra Help - Skilled Craftsman/Trades (EH26-079) Organization: Housing Job Type: Temporary Location: Edwardsville, IL The Housing Department at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is hiring temporary Skilled Craftsman/Trades positions to support campus facilities during the summer. The following positions are available: Plumber (1 Vacancy) Salary: $51.61 per hour Key duties and responsibilities: Repair, replace, install all plumbing fixtures, piping, fittings, valves, etc. Repair, replace, service, and install heating, refrigeration units, and gas appliances. Uncrate, move plumbing equipment, refrigeration units, and gas appliances. Repair and/or replace high‑temperature and chilled water lines. Perform plumbing tasks in renovated or new construction spaces for offices and instructional areas. Other duties as assigned to support the department/university mission. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of a recognized plumber apprenticeship program or five (5) years of full‑time journeyman‑level plumber experience. Current State of Illinois Plumber's License. Additional certifications as required (e.g., Lead Abatement Worker License). Painter (9 Positions) and Painter Taper (3 Positions) Salary: $34.49 per hour Key duties and responsibilities: Work with a variety of interior and exterior surfaces. Make appropriate repairs or preparations as necessary; repair/replace all glass and glazing for windows and doors. Refinish furniture and other woodwork as needed. Other duties as assigned to support the department/university mission. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program or four (4) years of journeyman‑level painter experience. Current certifications as required. Carpenter (3 Positions) Salary: $45.87 per hour Key duties and responsibilities: Repair and/or replace doors, door hardware, floors, walls, ceilings, and roofs. Uncrate/assemble new furniture and equipment for relocation; deliver furniture per prevailing agreements. Repair furniture as needed. Install interior and exterior signage. Perform carpentry tasks for new office or instructional spaces. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Recognized carpenter apprenticeship program or four (4) years of journeyman‑level carpenter experience. Current certifications as required. Construction Laborer (1 Position) Salary: $36.48 per hour Key duties and responsibilities: Maintain and construct retaining walls. Perform exterior drainage correction and excavation support. Pick up and unload construction materials; deliver to job sites. Lay out, pour, and finish concrete; asphalt repair and sealing; tuckpoint and masonry repair. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of experience using construction tools and equipment; knowledge of asbestos removal/handling. Pipefitter (Refrigeration Mechanic) (2 Positions) Salary: $51.61 per hour Key duties and responsibilities: Perform duties specific to pipefitter trade following recognized procedures. Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair pipe systems and related equipment. Work on steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production systems. Use oxyacetylene or electric welding processes. Qualifications: Completion of Pipetrade apprenticeship under a registered program. OR five (5) years of journeyman pipefitter experience (including apprenticeship). Experience in related trades (e.g., Refrigeration Mechanics, Temperature Control Mechanics, Sprinkler Fitters). Electrician (1 Position) Salary: $52.41 per hour Key duties and responsibilities: Repair, replace, and install electrical wiring, receptacles, switches, motors, and other equipment requiring special wiring. Install and replace interior and exterior lighting fixtures and lamps. Perform electrical tasks in renovated or new construction spaces for offices and instructional areas. Repair, replace, and rebuild electrical and electronic controls and other specialized equipment. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience as specified for each electrical position. FLSA: All positions are non‑exempt.
