As an HVAC Mechanic III, your expertise will directly support critical hospital operations by ensuring complex heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems remain safe, reliable, and ready to serve patients, staff, and visitors every day. This full-time, onsite opportunity is ideal for a seasoned HVAC professional who thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment and enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges. Working onsite in Palo Alto on a Tuesday through Saturday schedule, you’ll partner with Facilities team members and operational partners, you will help maintain critical infrastructure, respond to equipment needs, and support the long‑term reliability of building systems. Advanced HVAC maintenance and repair expertise: Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, testing, and system balancing on HVAC and refrigeration equipment Manage, maintain & program BMS/BAS system; trouble shoot complex issues from system; Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills: pneumatic, electronic, and mechanical control systems to maintain reliable operations Support equipment installations, upgrades, and infrastructure projects across the campus Interpret blueprints, prioritize work independently, and solve complex technical challenges Bring HVAC trade experience, strong communication skills, and comfort using mobile technology for work management Experience supporting critical facilities in healthcare, clean rooms, or data center environments Possess a EPA 608 universal certification. Facility Field Services (FFS) maintains Stanford Health Care’s most critical healthcare environments 24/7, ensuring high‑acuity spaces remain safe, reliable, and fully functional through expert preventive maintenance, rapid response, and regulatory compliance. A Brief Overview HVAC Mechanic installs, maintains, inspects and repairs refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, pneumatic and electronic controls, heating and cooling facilities and does general maintenance work in all HVAC equipment Locations Stanford Health Care What you will do Performs preventive maintenance work on HVAC equipment in accordance with the correct procedures and recommends changes in existing equipment and conditions for better operating efficiency. Installs new air conditioning units and systems, connecting the systems to required services and testing for proper operation. Installs, calibrates, and maintains manual, automatic pneumatic and electronic controls on all HVAC equipment. Obtains assistance when necessary on complicated electronics or pneumatic controls. Maintains tools, equipment and work area assigned. Prepares requisitions for supplies or materials required for given, authorized work in accordance with established procedures. Performs welding and brazing, and soldering on HVAC equipment in accordance with recognized and proper procedures. Repairs, maintains, and diagnoses problems regarding centralized air handling units for both electrical and pneumatic controls, including refrigerated air conditioning units, and walk in boxes, cold rooms and chillers for certain areas. Responds to complaints for heating or cooling and makes adjustments to bring it up to the necessary comfort levels as required by the occupants. Tests and balances the heating, cooling, ventilating, and air conditioning to conform to the proper specifications and code requirements. Assists other crafts on shutdowns involving heating and cooling, and power supply for refrigerated system. Education Qualifications High School Diploma or GED equivalent Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a Technical/Trade School with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, preferred. Experience Qualifications Four (4) to six (6) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience Five (5) years of health care HVAC field work, preferred Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to adapt to and deal with change and ambiguity Ability to operate standard tools, instruments and equipment used on the job Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches Ability to solve problems and identify solutions Ability to speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job Ability to work in a fast‑paced work environment Ability to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and repair Licenses and Certifications CADL - California Drivers License - Valid And In State required Upon Hire HVACEPAU – EPA Type 608 Universal Certification required. Base Pay Scale Generally starting at $57.53 - $64.80 per hour The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
