Organization TxDMV - Motor Carrier Investigator (San Antonio) (00058431) Primary Location Texas – San Antonio, RSC 6909 North Loop 1604 E, Suite 1199, San Antonio 78247 Position Business and Financial Operations Investigator Employee Status: Regular Travel Required: Yes, 50% of the time Salary Monthly: $4,900.00 Closing Date May 30, 2026, 4:59:00 AM General Description Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries. This position does not require a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement certificate nor is it a law enforcement position. Performs complex investigative work in support of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, Enforcement Division (ENF), Motor Carrier Section. Investigates and resolves motor carrier complaints and inquiries regarding business activities regulated by TxDMV. Work requires research and analysis of complex records to determine compliance with state and federal statutes. Work requires contact with high-level executives, attorneys, governmental officials and private entities. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Essential Duties Reviews and evaluates consumer complaints to determine if a violation has occurred and makes recommendations concerning action to be taken. Conducts field investigations and/or investigations of reported and suspected violations of statutes and rules, documents observations/findings. Gathers, examines and analyzes complex records necessary to complete investigations. Develops lists, contacts and/or interviews potential witnesses. Prepares investigative or inspection reports of findings and recommends corrective actions. Maintains complaint files, investigation files and reports; secures confidential information. Conducts research of state and federal statutes, regulations and other issues affecting area of jurisdiction. Coordinates with regulated businesses and consumers regarding complaints. Answers inquiries and provides guidance to regulated businesses. Makes recommendations concerning administrative penalties and assists in the correction of violations. Uses negotiation/mediation skills to resolve complaints, as appropriate. Provides expert testimony in court cases. Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures. Will travel 50% of the time. May include overnight travel. Travels by plane and/or car. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Considerable Knowledge of: Investigative practices and procedures Working Knowledge of: Negotiation, Mediation and arbitration techniques; Auditing and investigative methods, practices and procedures; Applicable laws, rules and regulations; Legal terminology Proficient Skill in: The use of personal computers and applicable programs, applications and systems; Interpreting and applying laws, rules and regulations; Conducting interviews; Gathering facts, analyzing and organizing technical data, evaluating findings and preparing reports; Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups Minimum Requirements Education Graduation from high school or the equivalent. College education or technical training in law enforcement, investigations or an investigations related field may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Official sealed transcripts of all college hours/degrees listed on State of Texas application will be required on or before the first day of employment if selected for the position. Experience Four (4) years progressively responsible experience in criminal or regulatory enforcement investigative work (Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent). If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within ninety (90) days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
