Job Description

This is Journeyman level trades work in various disciplines to maintain, construct, and renovate property of Sarasota County including but not restricted to structures and equipment. Coordinates bus shelter and other outsources equipment installations with vendors as necessary. Provide Facilities/Maintenance Manager daily reports of completed and pending work assignments.

Journeyman level trades work including, but not limited to:

• Performs carpentry including assisting in coordinating the planning, layout permitting and construction of structures and specialized equipment including drawing diagrams and site plans.
• Masonry/Concrete: Knowledge of concrete work and rebar, including design and structural elements.
• Ability to coordinate, direct, oversee concrete work and evaluate work done or needed to be done by others.
• Estimates time and material costs for the purpose of determining costs for specific projects.
• Assesses/inspects/repairs metal surfaces (shelters, benches, handrails, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that components are in safe working condition.
• Maintains equipment, tools, and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required items and ensuring safety.
• Responds to emergency situations for purposes of resolving immediate safety concerns.
• Prepares written materials (e.g., work orders, requisitions, drawings, sketches, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
• Ability to read, interpret and analyze facility drawings and site plans, or oversees vendors (project management) performing routine or corrective maintenance projects and trash collection.
• Performs repairs at SCAT shelters, involving carpentry, painting, concrete work, irrigation to include SCAT facilities as needed.
• Related administrative functions including, but not limited to: Utilizing technology and/or manual processes to track and locate bus stops, for work orders and invoices, and to monitor and report on work performed or scheduled. Required to carry a purchasing card, follow county procedures related thereto, and independently make fiscally responsible and program compliant purchases.

Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

A High School Diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years of experience in facility maintenance or construction experience. Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License at time of hire.

Job Competencies

Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment and tools needed to perform the required tasks of this position. Ability to represent the County to the public in a courteous manner and to maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Ability to perform or learn semi-skilled carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, and irrigation tasks. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under hot and humid conditions. Physical Demands: Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

Pay

$18.66 (Step 1)
