Available Shifts

• Second shift: 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.
• Third shift: 11:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Weekend availability needed

Position Overview

Ohana Community Services is hiring dependable and compassionate Direct Support Professionals to care for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

This is a hands-on position that requires patience, responsibility, and consistent attendance. We need employees who are committed to protecting our clients and providing quality care—not simply filling a shift.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene.
• Prepare meals and assist clients with eating when needed.
• Pass medication correctly after completing the required training and authorization.
• Complete shift notes, medication records, incident reports, and other required documentation.
• Follow each client’s Personal Plan, Implementation Strategy, behavior plan, and safety instructions.
• Provide active supervision and never leave clients unattended.
• Support clients during behaviors using approved de-escalation techniques.
• Take clients to appointments, programs, shopping, and community activities.
• Complete household duties, including cooking, cleaning, laundry, and organizing the home.
• Perform required client and safety checks throughout the shift.
• Report health, medication, behavioral, maintenance, or safety concerns immediately.
• Communicate professionally with clients, coworkers, house leads, nurses, case managers, and management.
• Review and respond to work-chat messages and schedule updates.
• Arrive on time and remain at the house until the next scheduled employee arrives.
• Follow the proper call-off procedure and assist with coverage when required.
• Remain awake, alert, and actively working during overnight shifts.
• Protect each client’s dignity, privacy, rights, and confidential information.
• Immediately report suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, medication errors, injuries, or safety concerns.
• Attend required meetings, training sessions, and certification classes.
• Follow all Ohana Community Services policies and state requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Illinois DSP certification preferred.
• CNA certification is also accepted.
• Previous DSP, CNA, caregiving, or healthcare experience preferred.
• Medication administration authorization preferred.
• Applicants without DSP certification must be willing to complete required training.
• Must be able to complete clear and accurate documentation in English.
• Bilingual English/Spanish applicants are encouraged to apply.
• Must have reliable transportation and a dependable plan for arriving at work.
• Must be able to work assigned weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be able to complete all required background and registry checks.
• Must be comfortable assisting with personal care, behaviors, cooking, cleaning, and community activities.
• Must be able to safely assist clients according to their individual needs.

Attendance and Conduct Expectations

Attendance is an essential part of this position. Applicants must be able to report to work consistently and on time.

The following will not be tolerated:

• No-call/no-show
• Leaving clients unattended
• Sleeping during an overnight shift
• Ignoring client needs
• Medication errors that are hidden or not reported
• Falsifying documentation
• Abuse, neglect, exploitation, or disrespectful treatment
• Repeated call-offs or attendance problems
• Failure to complete assigned duties

Serious safety or neglect concerns may result in immediate corrective action, termination, and reporting to the proper authorities when required.

Interview Requirements

Applicants selected for an interview should bring:

• Valid photo identification
• High school diploma, GED, or official proof of graduation
• DSP, CNA, CPR, medication, or other applicable certifications
