Shift: 1st Shift – M-F 7am to 3:30pm – Be flexible, shift subject to change.

Compensation: $17-30/hr

Job Summary:

The Machine Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimizing paper-bag converting equipment, flexographic printing presses, unwind stands, glue systems, and auxiliary machinery. This role ensures maximum uptime, safe operation, and consistent product quality across the production floor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Equipment Maintenance — Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on bag-making machines, printing presses, unwind stands, and conveyors
• Mechanical Repairs — Diagnose and repair mechanical failures including bearings, belts, rollers, tension systems, and drive assemblies
• Machine Setup Support — Assist operators with machine setup, alignment, calibration, and changeovers
• Troubleshooting — Identify root causes of jams, misfeeds, glue issues, registration problems, and mechanical malfunctions
• Safety Compliance — Follow lockout/tagout procedures, maintain safe work practices, and ensure equipment guards are functional
• Documentation — Record maintenance activities, repairs, parts usage, and downtime in maintenance logs or CMMS
• Parts & Inventory — Manage spare parts inventory, order replacement components, and track critical wear items
• Continuous Improvement — Recommend mechanical upgrades, process improvements, and reliability enhancements
• Experience with: Printers, Slitter, a rope machine, and stretch wrappers.

Requirements:

• Prior work in paper converting, bag-making, or flexographic printing
• Experience with bag machines, V-bottom machines, or multi-station presses, printers, slitter, rope machine, stretch wrappers.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and CMMS systems
• Experience repairing converting, packaging, or printing machinery
• Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to read schematics and technical manuals
• Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, tension systems, and drive mechanisms
• Ability to diagnose mechanical issues quickly in a fast-paced environment
• Familiarity with glue systems, rollers, bearings, and roll-fed equipment
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work on feet for extended periods
• Basic electrical understanding (preferred but not required)
