The Lead Maintenance Technician performs skilled maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance for the Garden’s buildings, facilities, equipment, vehicles, and recreational water features. This position works independently on a variety of maintenance projects, responds to facility needs, and provides direction to maintenance staff, temporary employees, and contractors as assigned. The ideal candidate has 2–3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, as a maintenance technician, handyman, or similar role, along with strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

·         Perform routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance and repairs to buildings, facilities, equipment, and infrastructure.

·         Troubleshoot basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, and HVAC issues.

·         Inspect facilities and equipment and identify maintenance, repair, and safety needs.

·         Safely operate and maintain hand and power tools and maintenance equipment.

·         Oversee the supervision of maintenance, seasonal, and temporary personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.

·         Maintain and repair the Garden’s vehicle and equipment fleet, including utility carts, golf carts, road vehicles, tractors, and related equipment.

·         Perform routine maintenance and repairs of pools and other recreational water features, including pumps, filters, plumbing, and related equipment.

·         Monitor water quality and maintain compliance with applicable health codes and safety standards.

·         Maintain maintenance and service records and respond to work orders.

·         Coordinate with contractors and vendors when specialized repairs are required.

·         Follow Garden safety policies, OSHA requirements, health codes, and other applicable regulations.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

·         Must be able to move throughout the 82-acre Garden property, as needed.

·         Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, kneel, and work in various positions for extended periods.

·         Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

·         Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

·         May require occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work to support Garden events and operations.

·         Work may involve exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, machinery, and other typical maintenance conditions.

Note: Duties described above, other duties, and physical demands have been identified as essential.

Education and Experience

·         High school diploma or GED required.

·         Technical school, vocational training, or coursework in facilities maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, automotive technology, or a related field preferred.

·         2–3 years of experience as a maintenance technician, handyman, facilities technician, or similar role.

·         Experience with general building and facility maintenance and repair.

·         Experience maintaining and repairing vehicles and equipment, including golf carts, utility carts, or tractors.

·         Experience with pool or Ornamental water-feature maintenance and repair.

·         Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skills.

·         Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.

·         Ability to safely use hand and power tools.

·         Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
