Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer

Redmond, WA | On-site | $185K–$210K + equity | Relocation support

A VC-backed space technology company that has secured $100M in funding is developing a scalable, electronically steered radar platform for spaceborne SAR, Earth observation and advanced defence missions.

They are seeking a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to lead the development of mission-critical flight firmware supporting radar operation, data collection, storage and processing.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop and test embedded firmware in C/C++.
\n
• Translate customer and partner requirements into practical firmware solutions.
\n
• Integrate software with FPGA/SoC processing platforms.
\n
• Support board bring-up, hardware integration and system-level debugging.
\n
• Optimise low-latency data movement between processors, FPGAs, memory, storage and network interfaces.
\n
• Develop test plans and verify software on flight-representative hardware.
\n
• Evaluate compute, memory, power and implementation trade-offs.
\n
• Collaborate with radar, FPGA, electrical and mechanical engineers.
\n
• Take ownership from requirements through integration and qualification.
\n

Required experience

\n
• Eight or more years of embedded firmware or flight-software development.
\n
• Strong embedded C/C++ experience.
\n
• Direct software or firmware experience on spacecraft, satellites or spaceborne payloads.
\n
• RTOS, embedded Linux or bare-metal development.
\n
• BSPs, bootloaders, device drivers and hardware bring-up.
\n
• FPGA/SoC integration and hardware-level debugging.
\n
• Understanding of space-grade architecture, fault tolerance and SEU mitigation.
\n
• Ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment.
\n
• ITAR eligibility.
\n

Highly desirable

\n
• MicroBlaze, Zynq or another FPGA-based processor.
\n
• VxWorks, FreeRTOS or PetaLinux.
\n
• DMA, DDR and high-speed FPGA-to-processor data movement.
\n
• SPI, I²C, UART, GPIO, Ethernet or SpaceWire.
\n
• Radar, RF payload or signal-processing experience.
\n
• Ability to read electrical schematics.
\n

Candidates whose experience is limited to ground systems, simulation, mission control or ground-support equipment will not meet the flight-firmware requirement.

Salary: $185K–$210K base plus equity
