Design Engineer

Join our dynamic Microgrid Mechanical Engineering team and contribute to the modeling and creation of production drawing sets for mechanical systems. You will provide essential engineering and design support for various components and assemblies of DI products, including generator enclosures, frame designs, fuel tank designs, and switchgear frames. You will also develop comprehensive document sets to ensure the efficient installation of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Model and create production drawing sets for mechanical systems per specifications.
• Provide engineering and design support for generator enclosures, frame designs, fuel tank designs, and switchgear frames.
• Develop document sets including BOM, schematics, schedules, and other drawing details.
• Ensure drawings are as-built and documents are filed for O&M development.
• Develop CAD models to drive complete BOMs in PDM software.
• Perform calculations for parameters such as fluid flow, friction, CFD, and FEA.
• Interface with the design team for placement and code clearances of equipment.
• Assist with product development initiatives including new component design.
• Design for manufacturability, reliability, and field maintainability.
• Identify processes to reduce manufacturing and operational costs.
• Coordinate with technical project managers to reduce scope gaps and identify project risks.
• Work with SMEs to facilitate product line improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills

• Mechanical design expertise.
• Proficiency in sheet metal and 3D modeling.
• Knowledge of power distribution and switchgear design.
• Experience with UL standards and mechanical engineering.
• Ability to interpret concept drawings and develop production drawings.
• Proficient in CFD and FEA.
• 5+ years of experience in an engineering role.
• 5+ years of manufacturing experience with generators and power equipment.
• Proficient with 3-D CAD software, preferably AutoDesk Inventor Professional.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (MSME or PE licensure a plus).
• Experience in project engineering and team lead coordination.
• Experience with CFD modeling.

Work Environment

The role requires 40 hours per week with a task-driven approach. A hybrid schedule of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote is offered. Collaboration with team members and stakeholders is essential.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Durham, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
