The Washington Diplomat compensation: $1000 at end of project plus commission employment type: part-time experience level: entry level job title: Advertising & Editorial Intern – Washington Diplomat Advertising & Editorial Intern (Sales-Focused) The Washington Diplomat / Embassy Directory Start Immediately – June 15 | 15–20 hours per week The Washington Diplomat, a publication covering international affairs and the diplomatic community in Washington, D.C., is seeking a driven intern to support advertising sales, editorial research, and media coordination for its widely distributed Embassy Directory and related coverage. This internship offers hands-on experience in media sales within a unique diplomatic market, working directly with embassies, international organizations, and global brands. --- Key Responsibilities Advertising Sales & Business Development (Primary Focus)
- Identify and contact prospective advertisers including embassies, international businesses, cultural institutions, and diplomatic organizations
- Pitch and sell advertising placements in The Washington Diplomat and Embassy Directory
- Build and manage a pipeline of leads, track outreach, and maintain client relationships
- Assist in developing media kits, rate sheets, and targeted outreach strategies
- Collaborate on ways to grow advertising revenue and expand client base
- Conduct research for articles on international relations, diplomacy, and global affairs
- Assist with fact-checking, content development, and interview preparation
- Assist with coordination of photo shoots and media-related logistics
- Provide occasional on-site support at events or shoots
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable with outreach, pitching, and persuasive conversations
- Interest in international affairs, media, publishing, or business development
- Organized, proactive, and detail-oriented
- Available during daytime business hours
- Stipend provided upon successful completion
- Performance-based incentives/commissions tied to advertising sales
- Direct exposure to Washington’s diplomatic, media, and international business community
- Practical experience in media sales, publishing, and client relations
