- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate appropriate to assignments
- Current first aid, CPR, and automated external defibrillator (AED) certification/training as required for the assignment
- Completion and maintenance of all UIL Coaches Certification Program (CCP), safety, concussion, steroid education, ethics/sportsmanship, and sport-specific training required for assigned grade levels and sports
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) with appropriate school bus/passenger endorsements is strongly preferred and heavily encouraged. If not held at hire, the employee is expected to make a good-faith effort to obtain the required CDL/endorsements within a district-approved timeframe, subject to district need, eligibility, training availability, and applicable law.
- Knowledge of UIL Constitution and Contest Rules applicable to middle school athletics, eligibility requirements, sport-specific rules, practice limitations, athletic calendars, and student participation requirements.
- Knowledge of age-appropriate coaching methods, fundamental skill development, strength and conditioning principles appropriate for grades 7-8, injury prevention, emergency action procedures, heat safety, concussion protocols, and student-athlete wellness.
- Ability to lead, mentor, coordinate, and provide work direction to middle school girls' coaches within assigned authority.
- Ability to coordinate schedules, transportation, facilities, equipment, inventories, tournaments/meets, and game-day operations for middle school girls' athletics.
- Strong organizational, communication, conflict-resolution, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA, district records requirements, and student privacy expectations.
- Ability to foster equitable access and opportunities for girls' athletics consistent with Title IX and district expectations.
- Minimum three years of successful coaching experience preferred; middle school coaching and/or athletic program leadership experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience coaching or supporting middle school volleyball, girls' basketball, track and field, or other girls' sports preferred.
- Provide leadership and coordination for the Sinton Middle School girls' athletic program in grades 7-8, including coaching expectations, student development, program organization, and continuity across girls' sports.
- Serve as a coach in volleyball, girls' basketball, track and field, and/or other assigned sports; plan and conduct practices, instruction, conditioning, competitions, and related activities in accordance with UIL and district requirements.
- Collaborate with the Director of Athletics, middle school administration, High School Girls Athletic Coordinator, and coaching staff to establish annual goals, program priorities, calendars, and expectations for the middle school girls' athletic program.
- Promote vertical alignment with the high school girls' athletic program, including fundamentals, terminology, skill development, strength/conditioning expectations, team culture, and student transition from middle school to high school athletics.
- Ensure coaching practices are age-appropriate and promote sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, citizenship, academic success, confidence, and the physical and emotional well-being of student-athletes.
- Monitor and enforce UIL and district eligibility requirements applicable to grades 7-8, including academic eligibility and participation rules, and coordinate concerns with appropriate campus personnel.
- Verify that required student participation documentation, medical forms, acknowledgments, physical examinations, and other district/UIL records are completed before participation when applicable.
- Ensure assigned middle school girls' coaches complete required UIL CCP and state-mandated training before applicable deadlines and maintain appropriate documentation in coordination with Athletics/HR.
- Implement and reinforce district and UIL emergency action plans, safety drills, concussion procedures, heat illness prevention, cardiac emergency response, AED access, and other health and safety protocols.
- Immediately report and appropriately respond to injuries, suspected concussions, safety concerns, hazing, bullying, harassment, discrimination, or other student welfare concerns in accordance with district procedures.
- Maintain appropriate supervision of middle school student-athletes before, during, and after practices, contests, travel, locker-room use, athletic periods, and other athletic activities.
- Coordinate middle school girls' practice and contest schedules, tournaments, meets, facilities, officials, transportation, and other operational needs with the Director of Athletics, campus administration, and appropriate staff.
- Accompany and supervise student-athletes during home and away competitions and district-approved travel; comply with transportation, student release, and supervision procedures.
- Drive or assist with district transportation for athletic events when properly licensed, authorized, and assigned; maintain all required CDL, endorsement, medical, safety, and district driver requirements when serving as a bus driver.
- Coordinate the proper use, inventory, issuance, collection, cleaning, storage, maintenance, repair, and replacement of middle school girls' uniforms, equipment, supplies, and athletic facilities.
- Assist the Director of Athletics and campus administration with middle school girls' athletics budget needs, purchase requests, equipment priorities, and expenditures in accordance with district purchasing procedures and budgetary limits.
- Support approved middle school athletic fundraising, parent organizations, and booster-club interactions when applicable and in accordance with district policy, UIL guidance, financial controls, and administrative approval.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the middle school girls' athletic program and recommend improvements based on participation, student development, safety, competitive performance, staffing, facilities, equipment, and program needs.
- Assist with the orientation, mentoring, coordination, and support of middle school girls' athletic coaches within assigned authority and provide input regarding coaching assignments and program needs.
- Provide middle school girls' coaching staff with clear expectations regarding professional conduct, supervision, communication, student safety, eligibility, documentation, program philosophy, and compliance.
- Assist the Director of Athletics and middle school administration with performance feedback regarding assigned coaching responsibilities as authorized by district procedures.
- Maintain professional, timely, and respectful communication with student-athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, teachers, administrators, officials, and community stakeholders.
- Establish appropriate parent and student communication processes for schedules, expectations, participation, travel, program requirements, and changes.
- Support student-athletes' academic progress by collaborating with teachers, counselors, administrators, and families and by emphasizing attendance, academic eligibility, classroom behavior, responsibility, and successful transition to high school.
- Promote continued participation in Sinton ISD athletics by helping student-athletes understand high school program expectations, available athletic opportunities, and the importance of long-term skill, character, and academic development.
- Promote equitable athletic opportunities and treatment of students and promptly elevate potential Title IX, discrimination, harassment, or retaliation concerns through district reporting channels.
- Ensure student discipline within middle school athletics is consistent, documented, age-appropriate, educationally sound, and aligned with the Student Code of Conduct, athletic handbook, Board policy, and administrative direction.
- Model and require ethical conduct, appropriate boundaries, professionalism, sportsmanship, positive leadership, and compliance with district employee standards.
- Maintain accurate middle school athletic records, rosters, schedules, inventories, eligibility documentation, incident/injury records, training documentation, and other required reports.
- Protect confidential student and employee information and maintain records in accordance with FERPA, district retention practices, and applicable law.
- Coordinate readiness of middle school girls' athletic facilities and communicate repair, maintenance, security, sanitation, and safety needs to the Director of Athletics, campus administration, and appropriate district personnel.
- Assist with middle school game/meet administration, event staffing, crowd management, emergency planning, and facility supervision as assigned.
- Participate in professional development, middle school staff meetings, athletic department meetings, parent meetings, vertical-alignment meetings, and district activities as required.
- Remain current on UIL rule changes affecting middle school athletics, TEA guidance, Texas Education Code requirements, Board policy, district procedures, and best practices for adolescent student-athletes.
- Perform other duties related to the position as assigned by the Director of Athletics, middle school principal, superintendent, or designee.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Athletic and sport-specific equipment; computer and peripherals; communication devices; office equipment; AED and emergency equipment; district vehicle or school bus when properly licensed and assigned. Posture/Motion: Prolonged standing and walking; frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing/pulling, demonstrations of athletic movements, and repetitive hand motions; prolonged sitting during travel and administrative work. Lifting: Frequent lifting/carrying of light to moderate athletic equipment; occasional heavier lifting with assistance or appropriate equipment. Environment: Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to sun, heat, cold, rain, wind, noise, crowds, athletic facilities, and districtwide/out-of-district travel. Work may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, tournaments, and extended/irregular hours. Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; manage multiple priorities and deadlines; respond to emergencies; exercise sound judgment involving student safety, personnel, competition, travel, parent communication, and public interaction.
