Optometrist (O.D.) Hopi Health Care Center (HHCC)

Contract Type: Federal One-Year Contract (Base Period) Indian Health Service BPA Call, nonpersonal health care services

Estimated Start Date: November 1, 2026 (facility estimate; subject to award, security clearance, and credentialing/privileging timelines)

Schedule: Full-Time: Monday Friday, (8-hr shifts, 1-hr unpaid lunch, 40 hrs/week paid). Part-Time/Intermittent blocks also available (AM / PM , Mon Thu, plus Fri AM). FLSA overtime applies over 80 hrs in a biweekly HHS pay period, priced separately.

Credentialing Lead Time: Candidate identified at least 45 calendar days before the scheduled performance date for IHS security clearance and credentialing/privileging per IHM Part 3, Chapter 23. Required documents: resume, OF-306 + Addendum (wet signature), IHS Provisional Access Memo, Pro-Children Act/No FEAR Act/ISSA training certificates, OFI-86C with fingerprint cards, HHS-745 Section A, two valid IDs, education/licensure, BLS certification.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver full-scope, AAAHC-consistent primary eye care: comprehensive exams, accurate diagnosis, and treatment of ocular conditions.
• Prescribe corrective lenses/medications within licensure and IHS-granted privileges; perform minor ocular procedures per AAAHC Ch. 10.
• Document all encounters in EHR/RPMS the same day, immediately following the encounter (AAAHC Ch. 6 / IHM Pt. 6, Ch. 3).
• Complete timely, accurate referrals (including Purchase Referred Care) for care beyond primary eye-care scope.

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree

• Minimum 2 years' clinical experience

• Active, unrestricted optometry licensure in any U.S. State, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. Territory

• Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC)

• Proficiency in EHR/RPMS documentation; compliance with continuing education per AAAHC Ch. 7

Weekly Per Diem (Lodging + M&IE)

$1,533.00 /week (non-taxable, GSA CONUS basis)

Blended Effective Hourly Rate

$148.33 /hr (taxed wage + per diem 40 hrs)

1099 Independent Contractor Rate

$134.00 /hr, all-inclusive (no per diem stacking; contractor responsible for self-employment tax)

One-Time Travel Allowance

$1,000 (single lump-sum reimbursement for relocation/mileage/airfare to assignment start)
