Job Description
Job Overview
Company: KLH Enterprises
Compensation: $80,000–$120,000 annually, based on experience and demonstrated capability
Location: Milton, Delaware
Employment Type: Full-time
Project Scope: Commercial and industrial concrete
Travel: Local and regional project sites; employees generally return home each day
Required License: Valid driver’s license
The Opportunity
KLH Enterprises is seeking an experienced Working Commercial Concrete Foreman who can independently lead commercial concrete projects while remaining actively involved in field production.
This role is ideal for a hands-on concrete professional who can take a current set of drawings, coordinate with the general contractor’s onsite leadership, organize the crew, operate equipment, and move a project from layout through completion with limited daily oversight.
The successful candidate will help KLH build stronger field leadership, improve quality and production, and reduce the company owners need to personally supervise every phase of each project.
This is not a desk-only supervisory role. The Working Foreman must be prepared to lead from the field, operate equipment, solve problems, and work alongside the crew when necessary.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Lead commercial and industrial concrete projects from preparation through completion.
- Review drawings, specifications, project files, schedules, and current revisions before work begins.
- Lay out foundations, footings, slabs, walls, loading areas, and related concrete work.
- Establish and verify elevations, dimensions, grades, slopes, and building locations.
- Coordinate daily activities with general contractors, onsite superintendents, suppliers, inspectors, and KLH leadership.
- Plan daily crew assignments and communicate production expectations.
- Direct concrete finishers, laborers, equipment operators, and subcontractors.
- Monitor workmanship, productivity, safety, and jobsite organization.
- Operate skid steers, excavators, backhoes, and other construction equipment.
- Excavate and prepare footings, foundations, and slab areas.
- Oversee formwork, stone preparation, reinforcing steel, embeds, and concrete placement.
- Confirm that forms, subgrade, reinforcement, and elevations are correct before each pour.
- Coordinate concrete trucks, pumps, equipment, materials, and manpower.
- Participate directly in placing, screeding, finishing, and protecting concrete when needed.
- Identify drawing conflicts, field-condition issues, and schedule risks before they affect production.
- Communicate changes, delays, quality concerns, and material needs promptly.
- Maintain project quality while meeting the general contractor’s schedule.
- Complete jobsite documentation, photographs, measurements, and progress updates as required.
- Protect company equipment, tools, vehicles, and project materials.
- Promote a safe, respectful, accountable, and productive work environment.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive experience in commercial or industrial concrete construction.
- Proven experience leading concrete crews on active commercial jobsites.
- Ability to independently read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of layout, elevations, grades, dimensions, and project sequencing.
- Experience managing concrete work from excavation through final placement and finishing.
- Ability to operate skid steers, excavators, backhoes, and similar equipment.
- Experience with footings, foundations, slabs, formwork, reinforcing steel, and structural concrete.
- Ability to communicate professionally with general contractors, onsite superintendents, vendors, and crew members.
- Demonstrated ability to assign work, hold employees accountable, and maintain production standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound field decisions.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to safely operate company vehicles and move tools or equipment between jobsites.
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather and perform the physical duties of a working foreman.
- Reliable attendance and willingness to support early starts, concrete-pour schedules, and occasional overtime.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ten or more years of commercial concrete experience.
- Five or more years leading concrete crews.
- Experience managing multiple phases of commercial projects with limited owner supervision.
- Experience with pre-engineered metal-building foundations and slabs.
- Experience with industrial floors, loading docks, ADA ramps, structural walls, and large commercial pours.
- Experience coordinating with general contractors and interpreting updated drawing sets.
- Experience with prevailing-wage, government, or certified-payroll projects.
- Ability to operate a truck and trailer safely.
- OSHA 10, OSHA 30, fall-protection, equipment-operation, or other relevant safety certifications.
- English-Spanish bilingual communication skills.
- Experience using tablets, smartphones, shared project folders, or construction-management technology.
What Success Looks Like
- Receive a project file and current drawing set from KLH leadership.
- Understand the scope, sequence, schedule, and key project requirements.
- Coordinate directly with the general contractor’s onsite team.
- Lay out and begin the work correctly.
- Organize the crew and equipment without constant owner direction.
- Maintain proper grades, elevations, dimensions, and quality.
- Identify problems early and communicate them clearly.
- Complete projects safely and within the required schedule.
- Develop crew members and improve field accountability.
- Reduce the owners need to personally operate equipment or supervise routine daily production.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual compensation of $80,000–$120,000, based on experience and demonstrated skill.
- Annual performance bonus eligibility.
- Paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave.
- Paid parental leave.
- Training and certification opportunities.
- Company vehicle or vehicle access based on job responsibilities.
- Company-provided phone, phone stipend, tablet, or other technology support.
- Company uniforms.
- Local and regional work with employees generally home each night.
- Opportunities for advancement into Superintendent, Operations, or expanded field-leadership responsibilities.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Work is performed primarily on active commercial and industrial construction sites.
- Regular exposure to outdoor weather, wet concrete, dust, noise, heavy equipment, and uneven terrain.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, lift, and work with tools throughout the day.
- Ability to lift and carry construction materials and equipment with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be comfortable working near concrete trucks, pumps, excavation equipment, and moving vehicles.
- Must consistently follow company and jobsite safety procedures.
