Overall Summary:
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager will lead efforts toward the elimination of workplace injuries, accidents, or incidents, and/or related risk, by providing Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) direction and leadership. The EHS Manager will design, develop, implement and oversee the company’s programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations to safeguard employees and our communities. The EHS Manager is a key member of the leadership team and will represent EHS within the company, ESG Council, and be the point of contact for external requests.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and communicate standardized company-wide safety policies while adhering to local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Manage and administer environmental, health, and safety programs to meet regulatory requirements, corporate initiatives, company objectives or relevant business partner requirements.
- Prepare and submit annual emission and recycling reports; collaborate consistently with private equity on ESG initiatives
- Partner with Facilities, Engineering, and other internal and external teams to ensure site construction/renovation activities incorporate EHS related considerations.
- Leverage Maintenance/Facilities teams and vendors for industrial waste management programs
- Promote and practice continuous improvement by measuring, analyzing, communicating, and improving upon EHS Key Performance Indicators.
- Advance local level leadership understanding and responsibility of daily EHS responsibilities to create a strong safety culture. This includes, but is not limited to, how to conduct thorough investigations of all safety-related accidents and incidents, evaluate root cause, and determine countermeasures to prevent future incidents.
- Support the local Safety Council to promote consistency and clarity across multiple locations.
- Oversee agency inspections.
- Manage Worker's Compensation claims by investigating the circumstances of the claimed injury objectively, while minimizing costs and fraud. Act to prevent reoccurrence. Participate in workers’ compensation hearings/mediations as needed.
- Consult with managers and human resources business partners on safety related matters.
- Ensure all required environmental and safety training and inspections/audits are complete, certifications and documentation are up to date, and training records are maintained including but not limited to:
- Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 300 log
- OSHA general industry required compliance programs
- 1st Responder training (First Aid, CPR/AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens)
- Site inspections and audits
- Lockout/Tagout training
- Annual site fire/emergency evacuations and severe weather drills
- Annual hearing testing and any follow-up that may be required
- Management/tracking of industrial hygiene evaluations (airborne particulates, ozone, noise)
- Safety and environmental compliance site inspections and audits (ie. Fire extinguisher inspections, emergency showers/eyewash stations, hoists, ladders, hazardous waste, etc.)
- Monthly water meter reporting
- Facility chemical listing and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Direct internal communications team on current safety topics by developing proactive safety messages, training, and programs.
- Responsible for the maintenance of company EHS applications and databases.
- Promote Safety as the Number One priority of all IWCO employees.
- Perform other (or other related) duties as applicable or assigned.
Supervision Responsibilities:
While this position currently supervises safety and regulatory policies, plans, guidelines, and provisions with direct or indirect accountabilities involving all Company employees, it may also have direct reports in the future as organizational needs evolve. This role encompasses oversight of safety and compliance standards, ensuring that all employees adhere to established protocols and regulations.
Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
- Basic knowledge of LEAN principles and prior experience working in a Continuous Improvement environment preferred.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to create a vision for EHS that the company can embed in the culture.
- Advanced problem-solving skills from identification through root cause resolution.
- Highly organized and detail oriented; ability to handle a wide range of issues varying in complexity.
- Proven training, coaching, and instruction skills.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required. Experience with MS Teams, Visio, and OneNote preferred.
- Ability to maintain an active physical presence on the production floor.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly motivated, energetic, and personable.
- Demonstrates a collaborative approach, maintains an approachable and authentic demeanor, and consistently treats others with respect and consideration.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or combination of equivalent/related education and experience.
- 5+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 3+ years leadership experience preferred
- Successful completion of OSHA 30-hour General Industry training
- Thorough understanding of OSHA standards and other local, state, and federal EHS-related regulatory requirements.
- Training and/or relevant experience in local, state, and federal environmental regulatory compliance and associated business policies, including but not limited to air emissions, stormwater permitting, EPCRA, HAZWOPER and emergency response, DOT hazardous materials, hazardous waste management, and SPCC programs.
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work 10 hours consecutively.
- This position may require sitting, walking, stooping, kneeling, pushing, climbing, moving, reaching overhead, and lifting up to 35 pounds. Periodic work outdoors may be required for investigations of incidents or inspections.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to adjust work hours to accommodate business/training needs. This may include some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to travel to other IWCO locations as needed.
Salary:
The starting salary range for this position is $90,000-$125,000.
At IWCO, base pay is determined by job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience, along with factors such as role scope and location. Candidates seeking compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and/or may be considered for other positions.
