Food Services Manager

Job Description Food Services Manager – Full‑Time. Terms of employment: 162 days. Supervises: Assigned staff under the Food Services Supervisor/Principal. FLSA status: Non‑Exempt. Department: Food Services. Nature of Work Ensure the availability of attractive, nutritious and palatable cafeteria meals in an efficient, pleasant and clean environment while complying with federal, state and district guidelines. Duties and Responsibilities Supervise preparation and service of high‑quality food, including work schedules, assignment of duties, menu adherence, standardized recipes and portion control. Oversee Food Services staff and cashiers, managing daily assignments and scheduling. Perform cashier duties when necessary, ensuring proper cash handling, daily bank deposits and compliance with meal status anonymity guidelines. Verify cashier’s daily meal and cash reports for accuracy. Ensure compliance with department rules, administrative directives, regulations, district and state policy, EID and federal regulations. Guarantee that all plates contain a reimbursable meal and that safety and sanitation procedures are followed. Provide hands‑on training for current employees and substitutes. Lead and foster teamwork among Food Service staff. Organize participation of appropriate individuals in Food Services decisions. Maintain open communication with the principal and school staff to integrate Food Service activities. Manage preparation and shipping of foods to meet federal, state and district guidelines for assigned schools and contracted programs. Manage inventory and maintain adequate supplies, verifying deliveries against order forms and correcting vendor errors. Prepare and maintain accurate menu record books, timesheets, inventories, temperature records and plate counts required for audits and cost‑revenue schedules. Conduct and coordinate training and staff meetings, including attendance at Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) meetings and mandatory trainings. Screen, select and train cafeteria workers, making recommendations on assignment, discipline and retention. Communicate verbally and in writing with staff. Maintain security and proper use of storeroom, supplies and kitchen equipment. Consult on personnel, staffing, production, delivery and equipment needs. Notify Food Services office of shortages and recommend hiring decisions. Verify time and attendance information and forward timesheets to the Food Service Supervisor. Review leave requests to ensure proper staffing. Initiate requests for equipment, building repairs and replacements. Report accidents promptly and forward reports following current procedures. Provide personnel for special events as approved, organizing and managing staff for such events. Utilize district‑approved computer software and prepare materials for the Board of Education. Adhere to procurement statutes, NMPED rules and budget accountability policies. Maintain professionalism through good attendance and adherence to work schedules. Comply with the Code of Ethics, administrative directives, board policy, state and federal statutes and regulations. Display courteous and professional behavior toward students, the public and school staff. Safeguard confidential information per FERPA and applicable statutes. Work outside the assigned schedule may be required. Perform additional tasks as assigned within the job description. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience in a PreK‑12 education food service and food preparation program. Current ServSafe Manager Certification or obtain within 30 days of employment. Ability to convert recipes. Valid driver’s license. Ability to pass a criminal background check. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Knowledge of food safety practices, NM Food Code, computer systems, task management, Food Service Safety and Health Requirements, basic mathematics, and universal hygiene precautions. Ability to convert recipes, communicate effectively, supervise employees, lift 50 pounds, and maintain freezer temperatures. Skill in analyzing issues, evaluating alternatives, and making logical recommendations for program improvement; reviewing, preparing, evaluating, and verifying records; managing and leading staff; delegating tasks; interpreting technical instructions; operating a personal computer; and prioritizing tasks to achieve goals. Environmental and Physical Factors Work performed in a standard office environment with light physical demands, frequent use of a personal computer and standard office equipment, and frequent district‑wide travel. Work Situation Factors Position involves competing demands, multiple tasks, deadlines, occasional work beyond normal hours, and responding to customer issues. Regular attendance is essential for continuity of services.
