Assistant Preschool Teacher

ABC Academy

Job Description

Job Description

About This Role

At ABC Academy, we believe childhood is a time for wonder, joy, and discovery. We are a vibrant, licensed learning community proudly serving families in Milton and St. Albans, Vermont. Our nurturing, play-based environment empowers children—from 6 weeks through 8th grade across our campuses—to learn through hands-on exploration, curiosity, and meaningful connections with their peers, educators, families, and the natural world.

Whether we’re splashing in puddles, creating masterpieces with paint and clay, reading stories under a tree, or helping children solve problems together, every day at ABC Academy is filled with purpose, joy, and growth. If you believe children should be seen, supported, and celebrated, we’d love to welcome you to the ABC family.

  • Help actively supervise children outdoors and promote safe, engaging play in all Vermont seasons.
  • Encourage children to observe, explore, and connect with the natural world.

Foster Positive Relationships

  • Build warm, responsive relationships with children that help them feel safe, valued, and confident.
  • Use gentle guidance and positive interactions to support emotional regulation, cooperation, and problem-solving.
  • Support children’s growing independence and self-help skills.

Assist with Classroom Routines

  • Help with transitions, meals, rest time, toileting, handwashing, and cleanup routines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Assist with active supervision indoors and outdoors to ensure children’s health and safety.

Collaborate with the Teaching Team

  • Work closely with the Lead Teacher and other staff members to provide consistent, high-quality care and education.
  • Communicate observations and concerns about children with the Lead Teacher.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
