Resource Nurse

A Resource Nurse is responsible for providing direct support to all members of the nursing division, including new hires, nurse leaders, and all nursing services at UM Shore Regional Health (UMSRH), to ensure safe, high-quality, and compassionate patient care. The Resource Nurse provides expert-level bedside education, coaching, mentoring, and guidance in the care of patients, families, the community, and in collaboration with the healthcare team. The facilitator serves as a clinical expert/resource for the nursing team, communicating regularly with the charge nurse, manager, director, educator, nurse resident, new nursing service hires, and preceptors to ensure the successful transition of all new nursing hires into the organization. A Resource Nurse responds to all Medical Emergencies, Code Blue, Brain Attacks, and clinical emergency alerts.

Provides feedback and coaching to the new grad, new hire, and the orientation team (manager/educator/preceptor/director), utilizing the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors of the professional nurse.

Monitors and performs rounds on all adult inpatient units and the Emergency Department (ED) or Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) "boarder" patients. Areas include observation, medical, surgical, critical care, heart and vascular, adult obstetrics, and inpatient/outpatient PACU. Rounding on psychiatry is at the request of the unit charge nurse.

Conducts reviews of patients identified "at risk" using the NEWS score, vital signs, lab results, diagnostic results, and use of antibiotics or supplemental O2. Additional consideration of high-risk patients includes, but is not limited to, patients requiring non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV), high-flow nasal cannula, peritoneal dialysis, tracheostomy care, chest tubes, or those who have recently returned from a procedure/recovery area with or without sedation.

Rounds on patients transferred from the critical care unit or higher level of care within the last 24 hours.

Supports the bedside RN to assess patients for normal vital signs (VS) or diagnostic trends to note changes that may require further evaluation. In non-urgent deteriorating patients, reviews the potential causes of abnormal VS/trends/diagnostics.

Assists with patient management and expedites necessary treatment interventions until the patient is transferred.

Documents assessments, treatments, interventions, communication and care delivered by the Resource Nurse in all aspects of the Medical Record as care is completed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required - Bachelor's degree in nursing is required. Current license in good standing as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or a compact state. Five (5) years of experience as a Registered Nurse, at least 2 years being critical care experience. Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Strong critical thinking skills. Effective, clear communicator. Strong interpersonal relationship building skills. Strong collaboration, leadership, and mentoring skills.

Preferred - Master of Science in Nursing is preferred. Certification in CCRN, CEN, or CMC is preferred.

Minimum Education, Experience, and License/Certification Required:

Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required. BSN with specialty certification or Master Degree in a health related field required. Current BLS certification required. Must meet all unit specific certification requirements (ACLS, PAL, NRP). Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting. Meets licensing requirements to practice registered nursing in the State of Maryland. Must meet all applicable federal, state, and local professional requirements.

Compensation

• Pay Range: $44.76 - $67.19
