Sr Mobile Trailer Mechanic

JOB SUMMARY

To support the growth of the company, Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Sr. Mobile Trailer Technician to join our team. This on-site position focuses on performing certified DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, and other duties such as aluminum and chem‑lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and panel replacement. Work is performed at the customer’s site and the technician is heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs by Mobile Trailer Technician I/II. The Sr. Mobile Trailer Technician functions as an on‑site leader, providing consultation to customers and technicians.

DUTIES

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on trailers and equipment in a mobile/field environment. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems, including aluminum and chem‑lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers. Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks. Document work according to company standards, uploading pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using a company‑issued iOS device and proprietary TRAIT application. Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely fashion. Always follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures. Independently manage parts inventory on the company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation. Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑/post‑trip inspections. Apply knowledge acquired through formal training or on‑the‑job experience to perform tasks; understand and evaluate technical information related to the job. Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, providing information or assistance and resolving their problems. Manage concurrent assignments, prioritizing work-related activities and time allocations. Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, and maintain confidentiality and ethical standards. Respond to call‑center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests. Work independently and manage own daily schedule. Maintain a high level of productivity and meet standard repair times. Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed. Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates and discuss RO findings. Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations. Participate in and complete all company‑required safety training. Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers and vendors; communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Diagnose, adjust, and perform repairs on trailer equipment and systems, including aluminum, chem‑lite, brakes, air lines, pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, panel replacement, body, and framework. Identify problems and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives and generate recommendations. Inspect, test, and diagnose defective equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges. Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics and support Mobile Trailer Technicians I & II in inventory reconciliation. Advise Mobile Trailer Technicians I & II on technical issues and perform advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs.

REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ experience in a related field. Alternative combinations include a higher degree or certification beyond a HS diploma/GED with 3 or 7 years of experience. Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties. OEM training and certifications are preferred. Complete all company‑required training. Follow DOT/FMCSA regulations; successfully complete DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical. Maintain a current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months before expiration (or meet physical requirements). Be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations. Hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, including design, use, repair, and maintenance. Understand implications of new information for current and future problem‑solving and decision‑making. Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor. Ability to exert oneself physically for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks. Accurately judge distances between objects. Communicate information succinctly and organized; engage in effective two‑way communication with individuals and groups. Determine needed tools and equipment. Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.

COMPENSATION

Hourly pay rate ranges from $29.38 to $44.09 per hour. The base rate may vary based on location and qualifications. Position may be eligible for additional compensation, such as commissions and incentive programs. Employees receive a minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off each month and seven paid holidays annually. Additional paid time off includes bereavement leave, voting leave, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
