Job Summary

Electrician I

SUMMARY: A skilled position which involves the repair, installation and general maintenance of electrical equipment. This position will require the ability to work independently. The employee is required to have a valid Alabama driver's license.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least three years related experience.
2. General knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with the electrical trade.
3. Knowledge of the state and local electrical and building codes.
4. Working knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools of the electrical trade.
5. Ability to perform work requiring mechanical aptitude.
6. Ability to read and work from schematics and blueprints.
7. Ability to read, write, and understand routine non-technical instructions.
8. Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts.
9. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

REPORTS TO : Director of Maintenance and Facilities

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.

REQUIRED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists with the repair and general maintenance of electrical fixtures, panels, motors, and equipment such as 120-208-240 single and three phase/ 480-550 three phase.
2. Make accurate time and material estimates.
3. Cleans and properly stores tools and equipment after use.
4. Maintains and exhibits a high level of ethical and professional standards as expected of all personnel.
5. Participates in in-service training as assigned.
6. Other duties being assigned as necessary.

Ability to work from ladders, roofs, and scaffolding.

1. Ability to work with and around moving parts and power tools and to work under occasional adverse environmental conditions such as exposure to dust and/or fumes.
2. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
3. The employee is required to walk.
4. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, or extreme heat. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to extreme cold or risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually noisy.
