Job Description

The Shop Technician works in the new build department to assemble, disassemble, troubleshoot, and repair centrifuges and related machinery components. This role involves performing mechanical and electrical work, conducting tests to ensure proper equipment function, and supporting material handling and equipment installation activities in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and disassemble centrifuges and other machinery components to support new builds and repairs.

• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on equipment and perform necessary repairs to ensure proper operation.

• Conduct tests on centrifuge units and related machinery to verify performance and functionality.

• Move, secure, install, build, load, and unload materials and equipment as directed.

• Load and unload equipment and assist with machine assembly and installation of equipment in the shop.

• Operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts, and overhead cranes in a safe and efficient manner.

• Use both heavy and light equipment and tools, depending on the specific job assignment.

• Follow directions from supervisors to move items and components from place to place within the facility.

• Perform carpentry tasks, including building crates and pallets for shipping or storage of equipment and components.

• Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to support accurate machine building and assembly.

• Support plumbing and piping-related tasks associated with machinery and system installations.

• Work with diesel engines and related components as needed for machinery and equipment.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all safety procedures and guidelines.

• Stay engaged, ask questions, and actively learn within a specialized, niche industry with a steep learning curve.

• Perform all other duties as assigned to support shop operations and project timelines.

Essential Skills

• Ability to lift over 50 pounds safely and repeatedly during the workday.

• Experience using a pallet jack; forklift experience preferred for material handling.

• Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, ever-changing work environment.

• Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with machine building and assembly.

• Basic electrical skills related to equipment troubleshooting and repair.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

• Experience operating overhead cranes or willingness to learn under supervision.

• Carpentry experience, including building crates and pallets.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Commitment to following safety protocols and using personal protective equipment.

• Strong work ethic with the ability to stay engaged and curious in a niche industry.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Any technical training or education beyond high school is a plus.

• Prior experience with plumbing and piping work related to machinery or industrial systems.

• Experience working with diesel engines and related mechanical components.

• Previous exposure to shop, garage, or dealership-like environments.

• Comfort operating both heavy and light equipment as job assignments require.

• Ability to adapt to changing tasks and priorities while maintaining attention to detail.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, first-shift position with hours from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will work in the new build department, in an environment similar to a large automotive dealership garage. The shop is heavily hands-on, with significant exposure to grease and oil due to work on trucks and centrifuge units. The setting involves a steep learning curve, as the industry is highly specialized, and you are expected to remain engaged and eager to learn. You will regularly use equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts, and overhead cranes, and work with various mechanical and electrical tools. The dress code includes work pants (such as Dickies or blue work pants), work or mechanic shirts (which will eventually be provided), steel-toe footwear, safety glasses, and acceptable headwear such as baseball caps. Loose jewelry is not allowed to maintain safety. The environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and adherence to shop protocols while working around heavy equipment and machinery.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kenosha, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
