Trekkers Counselor

Work Overview Trekkers Counselor is responsible for leading a group of 15‑20 middle‑school-aged campers during the Camp Concord season. Counselors supervise campers throughout daily activities, ensure physical and emotional safety, and foster a welcoming and supportive environment. Each week campers attend 3–4 field trips within a 1‑hour radius of Concord, MA, and participate in leadership and teamwork curriculum held on campus Monday and Friday. Pay & Schedule Pay range: $15.00–$16.75 per hour, based on qualifications. This is a part‑time, hourly position, up to 37.5 hours per week. Work days are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Program dates: June 15 – August 14, 2026. Training dates:

• June 4 & 5, 2026 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM
• June 6, 2026 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM
• June 17, 2026 4:15 PM – 5:15 PM
• July 1, 2026 4:15 PM – 5:15 PM

Responsibilities Manage and mentor campers aged 11–14 years in a dynamic outdoor camp setting with multiple field trips per week. Model a positive attitude, high energy, enthusiasm, effective problem‑solving skills, and professionalism. Communicate regularly with the Lead Counselor, providing updates on camper concerns, safety, staff issues, and program elements. Maintain high standards of excellence for camp staff and uphold appropriate professional boundaries. Implement the Behavioral Management Plan and associated safety protocols. Demonstrate excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills. Build relationships with campers and staff to foster friendly, supportive, and nurturing group dynamics. Practice stewardship of recreation property, including proper accounting and storage of all camp equipment. Enforce rules, regulations, and policies to ensure safety for all children and staff. Perform additional tasks as requested by the Camp Director or Recreation staff. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or pursuit in Education, Recreation, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Physical Education, or a related field preferred. Prior summer camp experience preferred. Experience working with middle school or high school students, especially 7th and 8th graders. Excellent communication, time‑management, and organizational skills. Fun‑loving, easy‑going personality capable of working well in teams. Willingness to receive feedback, develop leadership skills, and maintain a strong work ethic. Ability to work autonomously and take action as needed. Confidence and positive presence in both group and one‑on‑one settings. Leadership, flexibility, trustworthiness, creativity, energy, inspiration, and positivity. Special Requirements Must be 18 years of age or older. CPR and first aid certification required (available during staff training). Must be available for the entire camp season, including staff training. Comfortable with long distances, extended bus rides, and outdoor activities for most of the day. Physical Demands & Working Conditions Work is performed primarily outdoors during the summer months. Tasks may involve moderate temperature variations, noise, odors, and frequent interruptions. Candidates must be able to stand, walk, balance, crouch, grasp, pull, reach, and stoop for extended periods. The job may require working in a relatively noisy environment and managing high workloads.
