Itinerant School Psychologist at Maya Angelou Academy (YSC/NB) SY 25 - 26 Position Overview The Itinerant School Psychologist will work with students, teachers, and families to help scholars achieve the highest academic, emotional, and behavioral success. The position is a 12‑month, full‑time role serving grades 6‑12. It involves conducting evaluations, including cognitive and academic achievement testing, and writing reports to identify developmental, learning, and behavioral needs of a diverse student population. Service is provided at two sites: Maya Angelou Academy at New Beginnings (NB) in Laurel, MD, and Youth Services Center (YSC) in Washington, DC, with weekly time at both facilities. Responsibilities Conduct evaluations and re‑evaluations for students as requested or warranted. Articulate test results to families, school staff members, and other stakeholders in clear, understandable language, attending to cultural sensitivity. Deliver group and individual therapy sessions as indicated on student IEPs. Make recommendations for purchasing assessment materials. Keep abreast of advances in diagnostic materials. Maintain compliant IEPs, including contact logs, and report progress to families and stakeholders. Act as an interdisciplinary team member in the special education eligibility process, administering IQ, personality, and achievement tests. Research the effectiveness of academic programs and behavior management procedures and acquire new information. Consult with teachers, families, and school personnel about learning, social, and behavioral problems. Qualifications Master’s degree in educational, clinical, or school psychology, with 42 semester hours of graduate coursework and 500 hours of supervised field experience in a school setting. Eligible for or possessing DC certification as a psychologist. Clinical and/or counseling background with experience in supervising others and program development (preferred). Experience working with opportunity or justice‑involved youth (preferred). Salary and Benefits Maya Angelou Schools and See Forever Foundation salaries are comparable to those of other public charter schools in the District of Columbia area. The salary range is $100,000 – $115,000 per year (MAA@ New Beginnings).
