Senior Surgical Technologist Operating Room

Surgical Technologist Primary City/State: Phoenix, Arizona. Department: Surg-Hosp. $10,000 sign‑on bonus for experienced external Surgical Technicians. Bring your experience and passion for health care to our Surgery department. This position will cover general, urology, orthopaedic, endovascular, robotics, and plastics specialties. Banner University Medical Center Phoenix is a level1 trauma, Magnet, teaching hospital. The main operating rooms have 28 suites, including 2 hybrid, 2 DaVinci rooms, and MIS rooms. Employment Type: Full‑time. Hours per week: 36. Shift: 0630‑1900, Monday‑Friday. On‑call required for weekends and holidays. Flat rate $5/hr for call, $3/hr weekend shift differential, and 18% night shift differential where applicable. Core Functions Prepares for surgical procedures by pulling appropriate instruments and supplies, ensuring instruments are in good working order, reviewing case carts for correct items, troubleshooting equipment, and checking schedules for upcoming case needs. Anticipates the surgeon’s needs, passes instruments, retracts tissue, and maintains competency to scrub in a minimum of two surgical specialties. Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions, disposes of sharps and trash, participates in counting sharps, instruments and sponges, and prepares instruments for cleaning following each case. Ensures that all surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate. Assists with OR turnover between cases, stocking, replenishing supplies, and cleaning operating rooms. Participates in or leads the training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students as assigned. May provide business support to the department including administrative tasks. Follows safety procedures regarding medication labeling, specimen handling, sharps handling, time‑out procedure, radiation and laser safety, infection control, and assembling and disassembling instruments. Participates in emergency call rotation and is proficient to scrub on at least two surgical specialties. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED and current basic life support certification. Certified as a surgical technologist or two to three years of experience in a surgical technologist role. Must be registered with a State Regulatory Agency where applicable. Must be able to scrub proficiently on a minimum of two surgical specialties. Demonstrates manual dexterity, professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations, organization, quick response to surgeon and patient needs, and ongoing learning of new developments in the field.
