Children’s Center of Wayne County (TCC) The Children’s Center, founded in 1929, provides evidence-based clinical therapy to children who deal with mental, behavioral, emotional, intellectual, and developmental health and educational challenges or may have experienced trauma. School + Community-Based Partnerships: We partner with K-12 schools and community organizations that serve children to provide clinical therapy, counseling, psychological services, and psychiatric evaluations, treatment & interventions. Child Welfare : In addition to the clinical therapy programs offered, The Children’s Center places children in licensed foster homes, and supports them throughout their time in the child welfare system. Child Well-being + Family Success: We operate an onsite family success center that promotes child-wellbeing and offers children and youth from all walks of life to access relevant mental health crisis prevention and child abuse and neglect prevention services. TCC’s mission is to help children and families shape their own futures. Job Summary T he Manager of Community Advocacy and Engagement serves as a primary liaison between The Children's Center and local, county, state, and other governmental stakeholders, fostering strategic relationships with elected officials, legislative staff, public administrators, and advocacy organizations. The Manager develops and executes advocacy and legislative engagement strategies that promote awareness of children's behavioral health, child welfare, health equity, and issues related to underserved children and youth. Through policy monitoring, stakeholder education, coalition participation, and government relations activities, the Manager helps advance organizational priorities, influence systems change and strengthen The Children's Center's presence as a trusted voice in community advocacy and public policy. This position also supports the implementation of the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN) Systems of Care work plan and the Fatherhood Initiative, creating opportunities to strengthen and expand fatherhood and family engagement services across The Children's Center. In addition, the Manager is responsible for leading and advancing the agency's Crisis to Connection (C2C): An Imperative for Black Boys initiative through strategic community engagement, advocacy, coalition building, and public policy efforts. The Manager develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community stakeholders, youth-serving organizations, public agencies, and key partners to drive the implementation of C2C work plans, workgroups, community events, and communication strategies. Job Requirements Bachelor's degree in political science, macro social work, criminal justice or related field 2-4 years of experience in public, civic and or non-profit settings Experience in navigating legislative processes, working with government and elected officials, and advocating for specific policies at the state and local level. Management experience in the public, civic or non-profit setting with experience in community and legislative engagement. Ability to organize stakeholders that drive outcomes related to Community Partnerships and Projects Strong communication and written skills A passion for advancing equity, diversity and inclusion Flexibility to work some evenings and Saturdays Essential Functions Engage local and state officials to promote TCC’s annual legislative policies and priorities Act as the primary TCC advocate in all political spaces Develop and manage workplans from implementation to completion for each area: Crisis 2 Connections, Fatherhood and Legislative Priorities Support grant proposals in collaboration with the Grants Management Team. Convene stakeholders-public officials for either community education events or agency education related to the work of The Children’s Center and or specific to the work of anyone of the specialty programs and services as needed. Act as the staff liaison and oversee the charter for C2C Advisory Council Convene annual Town Hall, engaging clients and stakeholders. Manage the oversight of the annual Wayne County Fatherhood Forum Develop ongoing operational processes to engage fathers Develop ongoing operational processes to ensure connection between TCC direct service program areas and CPP initiatives and activities Demonstrate innovative planning and development to enhance the success C2C and Fatherhood Initiative Serve as a representative of TCC at community and public events Provide documented supervision and coaching to all direct reports. Contribute to the development of TCC’s annual legislative policies and priorities. Manage and oversee Key Performance Indicators for each service area. Attend all internal and external meetings as assigned. Adhere to all external contractual and grant expectations and regulations. Support evaluation needs for the delivery of services. Work in collaboration with CPP Division leadership on the special projects. Key Performance Indicators Successful annual fatherhood forum event Successful annual TCC Town Hall with a successful event rating Execute at least one legislative event. (Elected official breakfast, candidate forum etc ). Maintain a minimum of 10 C2C stakeholders Successful completion of 95% of all workplan objectives for Fatherhood Initiative No more than one customer (colleague, stakeholder, community partner, etc.) complaint that requires corrective action per year Demonstrated integration of C2C and Fatherhood Initiative with TCC direct service programs Physical Requirements Ability to lift 10-12 lbs. Ability to sit for long periods of time.
