Description:
This position is for an Emergency Department nurse specializing in trauma care.
The facility is a Level 4 trauma center with a total of 24 beds and 4 critical rooms.
The nurse will work within an intake model for lower acuity patients with flexible RN to patient ratios.
There is a separate triage area where travelers with demonstrated ability can triage patients.
Emergency Department holds are managed by the staff and intermixed within the department.
Psych/seclusion rooms are available and well-equipped.
Security personnel is in-house 24/7 with dedicated staff in the Emergency Department.
On average, the Emergency Department treats between 80 to 110 patients daily.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 for general emergency cases and 1:2 or 1:1 in critical conditions.
Charge nurses and house supervisors are available 24/7, with charge nurses not taking an assignment.
Emergency Department technicians support the nursing staff with a ratio of 1 technician for every 10 to 12 patients.
Respiratory therapy services are available, including intubation, ventilator setup, and other urgent care needs.
All beds are equipped with telemetry monitoring capability, and RNs are responsible for reading their own strips.
Both nursing staff and phlebotomy personnel may draw labs depending on the situation.
Scheduling is not self-scheduled but can accommodate block scheduling for a maximum of four consecutive shifts.
Every other weekend commitment is required, along with some major holiday shifts.
There is a call requirement with one on-call shift in a 28-day schedule.
Navy blue scrubs are the designated uniform for this position.
Training includes hospital orientation and one shift in each department with a mentor.
