The Patient Access Floater is responsible for providing excellent customer service for BRMC by fulfilling patient and departmental needs. This position serves as a key component to providing quality customer service to patients and staff by filling in vacancies within the Patient Services department. This person will “float” or travel to all BRMC practices which include Amherst, Appomattox, and Arrington . Duties include but are not limited to monitoring the patient schedule, performing routine medical office duties, and maintaining safe and efficient patient flow. May also be assigned other duties and special projects by the Practice Manager. Essential Job Duties and Functions:

1. Patient Registration : Checks in/out patients efficiently following standard patient registration policies and procedures. Operates computer system(s) proficiently using appropriate patient identifiers to update patient registration data, record payments, empanel patients and perform other functions as necessary.
2. Patient Scheduling : Supports all scheduling activities for medical and dental practices which includes the scheduling and re-scheduling of appointments and follow-up appointments based on standard scheduling protocols.
3. Insurance Verification : Updates and verifies insurance information in the electronic health record system using appropriate system(s).
4. Financial Counseling : Explains patient’s insurance and/or discount fee benefit and patient liability to patient, or their authorized representative, and collects appropriate fee.
5. Phone Operations : Answers telephone, assesses caller need, takes messages, and/or promptly transfers to appropriate staff.
6. Plays an active role in the training of new Patient Services team members.
7. Participates in regular staff and departmental meetings. May represent the Patient Services department in committees as determined by the Practice Manager.

Starting Compensation Range : $15.81/hr - $18.51/hr
