Campus Living at Northern Arizona University houses over 7,500 students and employees in over 20 campus living communities (CLCs), including traditional, suite and apartment housing. The Campus Living Engagement Coordinator (CLEC) role is a 12-month, full-time, live-on position, reporting directly to an Assistant Director. Each CLEC directly supervises a Graduate Assistant and leads a team of 4-8 student employees. Collectively, the team provides support and resources toward emerging and/or complex initiatives as part of the community engagement framework. The CLEC collaborates with CLC staff and other key partners to develop and implement programs and initiatives that support student success in a designated area.

The CLEC position serves in the rotating Tier 2 on-call team coverage, including weekday, weekend, and holidays. This includes response to wide-ranging, high-level critical incidents including providing emergency/crisis support and consultative assistance for the Community Assistant Tier 1 on-call staff.

In the summer months, Coordinators assist in the hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of summer student staff; respond to emergencies, critical incidents and concerns during scheduled on-call shifts; and oversee building preparations and room turnover in designated buildings housing student and non-student occupants. Responsibilities Include

35% - Campus Living Community Engagement Framework

• Implement determined priorities for the departmental community engagement framework that supports the education and growth of members of the Campus Living Communities (CLCs).
• Work as an engagement team to support and manage additional focus and resources toward emerging and/or complex initiatives that support the community engagement framework.
• Collaborate with CLC staff and other key partners to develop and implement programs and initiatives that support student success and provide targeted resources for community members in specific CLCs.
• Manage and assess ongoing engagement planning and implementation, including annual and special assessment data related to student learning, community development and inclusion, student engagement and retention, and community member satisfaction. Utilize data for process enhancement (e.g., Campus Living Experience, climate surveys, Pulse Survey, First-Year Success Inventory).
• Run and monitor community programming reports; identify and share high-impact practices, trends, and opportunities for community member education or engagement activities.
• Support students, staff, and Campus Living in advancing the departmental vision, mission, and foundational value areas.
• Complete assigned project work that supports Campus Living foundational values, Student Affairs priorities, and the NAU Strategic Roadmap.
• Lead the coordination and/or participate in the implementation of Campus Living Signature Events/Programs intended to enhance the NAU campus living experience, including Welcome Jacks move-in assistance programs, The Letters event and other large-scale efforts; collaborate in planning campus-wide events such as NAU Homecoming and other partnered efforts.
• Manage assigned focus area of additional responsibilities, including student organization advising (Campus Living Student Association, National Residence Hall Honorary, or other partnered student organizations) and focused housing support.
• Remain current in emerging professional trends and programs that add value to the campus living experience.

25% - Staff Supervision, Development, and Advising

• Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate 1-2 Engagement Graduate Assistants and 4-8 student employees.
• Organize and facilitate staff development activities to promote a strong sense of team cohesion and support.
• Provide clear, comprehensive, and timely performance feedback to graduate assistants on a regular basis.
• Engage staff members in intentional and expansive conversations and development opportunities around inclusive excellence.
• Facilitate student employee meetings and participate in centralized staff meetings and in-services. Weekly staff meetings are scheduled for Wednesday nights from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Participate in departmental staffing efforts, including inclusive, intentional, and comprehensive recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training processes.

15% - Administration, Operations, and Facilities

• Utilize software to manage student engagement reports, student conduct, and related operations; become proficient with primary management systems such as StarRez, Maxient, Lenel, etc.
• Review and collaborate with supervisor and other ADs to authorize expenditures supporting Campus Living engagement efforts.
• Provide input and feedback for facilities enhancements that support engagement efforts and student needs; work with staff to determine appropriate needs and improvements.
• Summer Responsibilities: Campus Living serves a variety of populations during the summer months including NAU students, focused-program participants, and conference guests. During the summer, Engagement Coordinators:
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate summer student staff.
  • Respond to emergencies, critical incidents and community members’ concerns during scheduled on-call shifts.
  • Oversee building preparations and room turnover. 

15% - Staff/Student Support and Crisis/Critical Response

• Participate in the Tier 2 on-call team coverage, including weekday, weekend, and holidays.
• Address emergency and crisis situations appropriately as they arise and work to mitigate community impact.
• Collaborate and consult with Tier 3 on-call staff for community situations; make appropriate referrals, report concerns, and follow up with CLC staff as needed.
• Provide support, guidance, and appropriate referrals for community members in need of professional services and resources; be knowledgeable of campus and community resources.
• Apply conflict resolution skills when responding to students in crisis, roommate conflicts, student concerns, etc.
• Understand and reinforce the policies and procedures of the NAU Student Code of Conduct and Campus Living Community Policies.
• Work with Campus Living and Dean of Students staff as needed in the intake, assessment, and coordination of students requiring case management services.
• Monitor FYI reports and related student support information to identify repeated behaviors, emerging trends, and students of concern. Utilize established case consultation processes to determine appropriate intervention strategies, referrals, case creation, escalation, and follow-up in collaboration with Campus Living and campus partners.

5% - Departmental Engagement

• Serve on departmental committees, ad-hoc groups, etc. to coordinate and manage processes, develop schedules and trainings, address critical issues impacting community members and staff, and respond to other departmental needs/topics.
• Attend scheduled weekly departmental meetings and other staff meetings, workshops, and developmental opportunities.
• Participate in and assist with facilitating designated departmental student employee training. Plan and implement specific staff training sessions related to the role and areas of improvement. 

5% - Other 

• Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Undergraduate bachelor’s degree.
• 3 years of relevant experience.

*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related field (completed by start date).

Compensation

Budgeted salary is $49,000. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
