Charge Nurse

Key Job Duties And Responsibilities Employee is required to direct, administer, and record the care given to residents in this facility. The Charge Nurse reports to the Director of Nursing. The following list is a general overview of key duties; additional tasks may be assigned by an authorized supervisor. Communicate with family members regarding the progress of residents. Assist visiting physicians in rounds (as required). Draw blood and obtain fluid samples for lab work (as required). Record and monitor residents’ progress and communicate with physicians according to facility policies. Assist in the dining area, including feeding residents (as required). Monitor the work of other nursing staff in the unit to ensure thoroughness and assist with tasks. Use telephone to communicate with physicians, arrange transportation for doctor appointments, and contact families. Make rounds to maintain cleanliness and proper care for residents. Coordinate care of residents in accordance with their care plans. Effectively manage all nursing staff assigned to the unit. Complete various reports as needed. Monitor personal and staff compliance with all state and federal requirements, including blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, infection control, and fire safety. Monitor compliance with residents’ rights. Ensure all medications and treatments are administered as ordered and in a timely fashion according to facility policies and schedules. Replace nursing staff who call in sick with additional staff; provide nursing services when staff are insufficient. Essential Job Duties/Physical Requirements The following is a general list of key job/physical requirements for your position. The list is not inclusive; other requirements may be necessary as determined by the facility. Regular worksite attendance. Must have a valid Kansas nursing license that is in good standing with the State. Must have basic computer skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must be able to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary. Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations. Must be able to perform essential position functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Employee is required to use a transfer/gait belt or obtain assistance when lifting or carrying objects in excess of 25 pounds. This is a supervisory position; employee must handle employees effectively. Employee may be asked to perform other duties not listed above; such duties will be within the scope of the employee’s training and ability. Employees may be required to operate an automobile and various equipment. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the community.
