About the Prevention Education Program

Through the Prevention Education Program, RTS provides a variety of educational presentations to San Mateo County schools, community organizations, and individuals. The major components of the program include the following:

• Ending Cycles of Violence – A Personal Choice: a series of interactive presentations for teens exploring the effects of trauma, cycles of violence, and the healing process.
• Rape and Violence Prevention: interactive presentations and school-based programs designed to teach rape and violence prevention through exploration of issues such as gender socialization and causes of rape/violence.
• Community Education: presentations to community organizations and community members on a variety of topics including RTS services, signs of trauma, and community resources.
• Professional Trainings: trainings for service providers and professionals in topics such as trauma basics, responding to disclosures, reporting protocols, and RTS services.
• Outreach to Under-served Communities: collaboration with the agency's existing programs to conduct outreach to under-served communities in the county.

Prevention Education Program Manager – Job Description:

This is a managerial-level position for an experienced educator who will both represent RTS at a leadership level in the community and remain an active, skilled presence in the classroom. The Program Manager owns the strategic direction of the Prevention Education Program, including proactively evaluating and evolving curriculum to reflect changes in society and the local community — and is accountable for the program's growth, quality, and funder compliance. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Program leadership and external representation:

• Serve as the primary representative of RTS's prevention education work in meetings, partnerships, and outreach with school districts, county agencies, and community organizations.
• Build and maintain high-level relationships with school administrators and district decision-makers to expand and sustain program reach.
• Promote prevention education workshops and programming to schools and community organizations, and oversee scheduling and confirmation of workshops.

Curriculum strategy and development:

• Proactively evaluate curriculum on an ongoing basis and identify when updates are needed in response to changes in society, local community needs, and emerging research.
• Lead the development, tailoring, and continuous improvement of curriculum, ensuring content stays current, evidence-informed, and culturally responsive.
• Deliver presentations directly to schools, community organizations, and RTS volunteers — modeling excellence in the classroom as well as in strategic planning.

Staff and volunteer leadership:

• Mentor, supervise, and coordinate orientation and training for prevention education staff and new hires.
• Provide ongoing guidance, coaching, and professional development support to RTS educators.

Program management, funding, and evaluation:

• Monitor progress and compliance with the program's funding sources: track the number and types of presentations, manage program budgets, and compile accurate data and narratives for grant reports and proposals.
• Design and coordinate the implementation of program evaluations (both internal and grant-funded), and use findings to inform program and curriculum decisions.
• Lead collaboration efforts with other County agencies and schools to increase outreach and services across the County.

Direct services and agency contribution:

• Share duties on the 24-hour crisis line, and provide counseling and other direct services such as accompaniment and advocacy, including occasional overnight shifts.
• Create content for social media posts, presentations, the quarterly agency newsletter, and other print and online literature.
• Perform administrative and operational tasks and provide leadership as appropriate to contribute to the operation and growth of the agency.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in education (teaching, curriculum development, training, or program leadership); experience managing or supervising staff strongly preferred.
• Experience working in a rape crisis center and/or domestic violence agency a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to represent an organization publicly and build relationships with school administrators, district staff, and community partners.
• Proven track record developing, evaluating, and updating curriculum, including responding proactively to shifts in community needs.
• Strong, dynamic public speaking and training skills, with comfort presenting to both youth in classrooms and adult stakeholders in professional settings.
• Very strong interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, including the ability to listen, clearly state needs, and compose documents.
• Ability to develop and communicate a strategic project plan, and to manage a program budget.
• Ability to address crises and problem-solve effectively, and to work under pressure while managing multiple deadlines.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to balance autonomy, accountability, and collaboration.
• Commitment to developing or expanding trauma-focused counseling and advocacy skills.
• Fluency in Spanish language strongly desired.
• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or equivalent professional experience in education, public health, social work, or a related field preferred.
• Willingness and availability to work flexible hours, including some weekend and evening hours.
• Valid California driver's license, insurance, and reliable access to transportation.

Compensation:

Salary is determined by program management experience, curriculum leadership, and specialized background:

A 5% pay differential for bilingual Spanish/English fluency applies to base salaries at any tier.

$85,000 - $90,000 range:

• Meets minimum qualifications: 3 years of professional experience in education and a bachelor's degree.
• Able to deliver existing curriculum effectively and present comfortably to classrooms and community groups.

$90,000 - $95,000 range:

• 3–5 years of experience with program coordination and/or lead-level responsibility.
• Experience adapting or updating curriculum in response to audience or community needs.
• Experience representing an organization in meetings with school staff or community partners.
• And/or some direct or closely related trauma-informed experience, or relevant coursework/certifications.

$95,000 - $100,000 range:

• 5+ years of experience with demonstrated program management and staff supervision.
• Track record independently designing and leading curriculum development, including proactively identifying when change is needed.
• Established history building and sustaining relationships with school district leadership, county agencies, or funders.
• Direct experience at a rape crisis center and/or DV agency, and/or a Master's degree or equivalent, or a multi-year history managing a program budget or grant portfolio.

Factors influencing placement within salary range:

• Years of professional experience in education and program management.
• Track record independently developing, evaluating, and updating curriculum.
• Experience representing an organization to school district leadership, county agencies, or funders.
• Experience working in a rape crisis center and/or domestic violence agency.
• Experience with diverse and underserved communities.
• Advanced degree (Master's or equivalent) and/or multi-year history managing a program budget or grant portfolio.
