Overview The FAO Schwarz Toy Specialist blends high‑touch retail selling with dynamic, interactive experience facilitation. This role drives sales by delivering signature FAO experiences and creating magical, memorable moments for guests of all ages. Toy Specialists bring strong sales instincts, an engaging presence, and the ability to guide guests through personalized journeys. As experts in the Jewel Box, a rotating collection of FAO brand experiences, they are responsible for mastering each experience, booking and facilitating appointments, and adapting quickly as experiences, products, and processes evolve throughout the year. Responsibilities Perform all in-house experiences consistently in line with established guidelines, while adding personal flair to make each experience feel unique. Embody the cast of characters unique to each experience through provided costumes, props, scripting, and character backstories. Engage guests using the FAO Schwarz selling vision to delight and build authentic connections. Build rapport with guests, occasionally handling multiple guests simultaneously. Demonstrate product knowledge by introducing key items based on guests’ needs and demonstrating items with confidence and enthusiasm. Showcase key features to help customers explore and engage with the assortment. Assist with stock refilling and other product tasks as needed. Maintain understanding of store layout and local area to handle guest queries effectively. Handle POS transactions in accordance with policies and procedures. Apply basic merchandising principles to maintain floor layout and planograms on a daily basis. Wear and maintain provided uniform (branded shirt and apron) in clean, presentable condition. Qualifications 1+ year experience in a fast-paced premium retail or experience-based environment preferred. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal abilities. Ability to perform in front of large audiences or one‑on‑one with the purpose of driving sales. Experience in performance, acting, music, or dance is a plus. Familiarity with a premium or experience-based retailer is a plus. An engaging and theatrical personality capable of captivating audiences in all environments. Ability to remain positive and in character for extended periods without losing energy. Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs. Physical Requirements Continuous movement for 6-8 hours per shift, including frequent bending, twisting, squatting, flexing, and reaching to handle merchandise and assist customers. Frequent use of hands for grasping and manipulation. Able to handle bulky or awkward items and lift items weighing up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 25 pounds occasionally. Pay Range and Benefits Pay range: $17.30 per hour. Pay offers are location-dependent and reflect job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
