Data Engineer

Position Overview Data Engineer – Agile Defense. Location: Camp Smith, HI (Camp H.M. Smith). Clearance: Top Secret (must have at start). Salary: $150,000 - $175,000 annually. Agile Defense seeks a Data Engineer to design, develop, and deploy scalable AI‑enabled data solutions within the Department of Defense’s CDAO ADA IR program. The role collaborates with product managers, developers, and mission stakeholders to convert raw data into actionable insights and supported AI/ML services in secure, containerized environments. Responsibilities Design and maintain scalable data science services (Objective1) Plan, develop, and maintain reusable services for data ingestion, transformation, and feature engineering that support AI/ML workflows. Implement core data science capabilities such as entity resolution, classification, clustering, or prediction within containerized environments following CI/CD, version control, and testing standards. Collaborate with DevSecOps engineers to integrate services into secure production environments using tools like Databricks, Docker, and Terraform. Ensure services meet performance, reliability, and security requirements consistent with DoD enterprise and cloud‑native architecture. Build and operationalize AI/ML solutions (Objective2) Develop and deploy standalone or embedded ML models for decision support, automation, anomaly detection, and pattern recognition. Select and implement modeling techniques using Python, Spark, or cloud‑native ML frameworks (SageMaker, MLflow). Maintain reproducibility and interpretability of model outputs for audit requirements. Package model inference services with well‑documented APIs for integration into end‑user applications and operational dashboards. Perform exploratory data analysis and communicate insights (Objective3) Conduct EDA to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities within structured and unstructured datasets. Develop data visualizations and interpretive summaries to support stakeholder understanding and product team decision‑making. Translate analytical findings into actionable recommendations using visual, narrative, and quantitative communication strategies. Contribute to the team’s shared library of analysis templates, reusable queries, and analytic workflows. Collaborate across teams to deliver mission impact (Objective4) Engage with product managers and mission users to define data and model requirements aligned with operational goals. Work closely with engineers to ensure data science components align with technical constraints and deployment patterns. Participate in agile sprint planning, retrospectives, and demos, sharing progress and adjusting priorities. Maintain strong documentation practices enabling handoff, reproducibility, and technical accountability. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree + 3 years of recent specialized experience Associate’s degree + 7 years of recent specialized experience Major certification + 7 years of recent specialized experience 11 years of recent specialized experience Required Skills Data visualization and storytelling using tools such as Palantir’s MSS Workshop, Slate, AIP & Foundry Experience with data pipeline development and distributed data frameworks (Spark, Databricks, PySpark) Proficient in Python, SQL Experience developing ML models from training to deployment with scikit‑learn, TensorFlow, XGBoost Strong technical communication skills; ability to explain complex concepts to non‑technical audiences Familiarity with MLOps, API development, and secure cloud‑based environments (AWS, Azure, Palantir Foundry) Understanding of data validation, model testing, and performance evaluation techniques Preferred Skills 4+ years of applied data science or data pipeline development experience Experience in Palantir Foundry development Experience with MLOps practices and secure cloud environments Familiarity with Palantir’s tools Working Conditions Must be able to work onsite in a SCIF Salary $150,000 - $175,000 per year.
