Controller

Location: Tampa, FL (or surrounding area) Industry: Agriculture / Food & Beverage / CPG Employment Type: Full-time Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and hands‑on Controller to lead the accounting and financial operations for a growing, operations‑driven business within the agriculture/food & beverage space. This role will oversee day‑to‑day accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls while partnering closely with leadership to support business growth and operational decision‑making. The ideal candidate has experience in manufacturing, agriculture, food production, or beverage environments and is comfortable working in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial setting. Key Responsibilities Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month‑end/year‑end close Prepare and review accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP Manage budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis Ensure proper cost accounting, inventory controls, and margin analysis Maintain and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures Oversee cash flow management and financial planning Coordinate with external partners including auditors, tax advisors, and banking institutions Support ERP/accounting system maintenance, integrations, and process improvements Partner with leadership to provide financial insights that support operational and strategic decisions Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field Accounting experience, including Controller or Assistant Controller responsibilities Experience in agriculture, food & beverage, manufacturing, distribution, or CPG environments strongly preferred Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting Hands‑on experience with inventory, cost accounting, and operational finance Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or similar) Advanced Excel skills Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently Excellent communication and leadership skills Ascendo is a certified minority owned staffing firm, and we welcome and celebrate diversity.
