Work Hours: Core hours Monday-Thursday 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Friday 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM (flexible schedules available)

The Planet Group is currently seeking a Lead Piping Designer for a growing company in the industrial engineering and EPC services industry . Qualified candidates must have **10+ years of piping design experience within an A/E or EPC environment, strong process piping experience, and previous experience leading piping designers and directing project workflow. Candidates must have experience with E3D (required) and ideally CadWorx, with industrial project experience supporting specialty chemical, heavy industrial, manufacturing, data center, or similar facilities. Job Description

The Lead Piping Designer will oversee the design, coordination, and technical execution of piping systems for complex industrial projects. This role will provide technical leadership to piping designers and drafters while ensuring designs meet project specifications, safety requirements, and engineering standards.

The Lead Piping Designer will support large-scale industrial projects, including specialty chemical and data center facilities, with a focus on process piping systems and detailed engineering design.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead and coordinate piping design activities for assigned projects
• Evaluate project scope using P&IDs, specifications, and design criteria to develop piping systems
• Create and review piping layouts, models, drawings, and design deliverables
• Utilize E3D for 3D piping design and model development
• Coordinate integrated design efforts using tools such as Navisworks
• Direct workflow of piping designers and drafters to ensure project schedules and deliverables are met
• Support projects delivered across multiple office locations
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, clients, vendors, and contractors
• Identify design conflicts, manage changes, and assist with project risk mitigation
• Participate in construction support activities including:
• Field verification
• Site observations
• RFI responses
• Submittal reviews
• Construction coordination
• Ensure piping designs follow applicable codes, standards, and company procedures
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to piping design team members

Requirements

• 10+ years of piping design experience within an architectural/engineering (A/E) or EPC environment
• Previous experience leading piping designers, drafters, or project design teams
• Strong process piping background required
• Experience supporting industrial facilities such as:
• Specialty chemical
• Heavy industrial
• Manufacturing
• Data centers
• Power
• Pulp & paper
• Similar process facilities
• Experience with E3D required
• CadWorx Plant Professional experience preferred
• Navisworks experience for design coordination preferred
• Experience interpreting P&IDs and developing piping systems
• Strong understanding of piping layouts, materials, specifications, and plant design standards
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
• Ability to manage priorities and deliver projects on schedule
• Willingness to perform occasional field visits and access elevated platforms/stairs/ladders at client sites
• Associate degree preferred or equivalent industry experience
