Job Description

This role supports heavy maintenance of commercial aircraft by ensuring the safe and reliable operation of aircraft electronic systems. Working in the component shop of a large maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility, you will focus on testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and certifying a variety of aircraft avionics equipment and related systems, with a primary emphasis on bench testing and repair of aircraft window heat control units and other interior electrical components.

Responsibilities

• Support heavy maintenance of commercial aircraft by performing electrical and electronic repairs on avionics equipment and related systems to ensure safe in-flight operations.
• Test, troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, reassemble, and certify various aircraft avionics components, including lights, wire harnesses, electro-mechanical actuators, window heat controls, and other interior systems.
• Perform bench testing of aircraft window heat control units, including running diagnostics on test benches, referencing technical manuals, identifying faults, replacing wires or basic circuit boards, soldering new connections, and documenting results for recertification.
• Set up and operate precision test equipment for alignment, troubleshooting, and testing of electronic equipment and systems in accordance with established procedures.
• Use Oracle-based computer software to view work orders, log tasks, track materials, and update repair status and condition information.
• Operate standard electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, ohmmeters, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers to evaluate component performance and identify malfunctions.
• Align and adjust advanced electrical components on units under test to ensure proper functioning of electrical circuits, following established test procedures and specifications.
• Analyze circuitry, review diagrams, and physically inspect wiring and operation of electronic parts, units, and system components to determine root causes of malfunctions discovered during testing.
• Perform electrical and mechanical repair operations, including disassembly and assembly of units, ensuring all work meets applicable quality and regulatory standards.
• Determine requirements and install modifications as specified by service bulletins or other authorized technical documentation.
• Build wire harnesses starting from spool, following assembly instructions, attaching connectors, and installing harnesses into repaired units.
• Read and interpret diagrams, blueprints, and tool lists to select appropriate tools such as wire strippers, crimpers, soldering irons, and multimeters for repair and assembly tasks.
• Accurately document all repair actions, test results, and certifications in accordance with shop and regulatory requirements.
• Use software-based systems for job tracking and task management, including referencing task order numbers, codes, and maintaining accurate records.
• Collaborate with shop personnel and follow established processes to support efficient workflow and on-time delivery of repaired components.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of recent electro-mechanical assembly or repair experience, including work with complex electronics or avionics systems.
• Experience using electronic test benches to test, diagnose, and verify the performance of electronic devices or control units.
• Hands-on experience building or repairing simple wire harnesses, including cutting from spool, stripping wire, attaching connectors, and installing harnesses into assemblies.
• Proficiency with soldering, including soldering wires to contacts and performing basic circuit board-level repairs.
• Ability to read and interpret diagrams, blueprints, and technical documentation to guide assembly, repair, and testing activities.
• Demonstrated ability to select and use appropriate tools such as wire strippers, crimpers, soldering irons, and multimeters based on diagrams and tool lists.
• Experience using computer software daily for task tracking, repair status updates, completion reporting, and quality documentation.
• Comfort working with software-based job tracking systems, including remembering passwords and referencing task order numbers and codes.
• Familiarity with standard electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, ohmmeters, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers.
• Ability to analyze circuitry and physically inspect wiring and electronic components to locate malfunction causes.
• Capability to perform both electrical and mechanical repair operations, including precise disassembly and reassembly of units.
• Eligibility to work in a safety-sensitive role under applicable FAA DOT requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as an intermediate-level (I-level) avionics technician, particularly from military environments such as Navy or Army avionics survivability equipment repair, is highly valued.
• Prior work in aviation or aircraft maintenance environments, including airframe or avionics systems, is advantageous.
• Experience with aviation-related electronics manufacturers or MRO operations as an electrical or electronics technician is a plus.
• Strong mechanical aptitude combined with electronics knowledge, enabling effective troubleshooting of electro-mechanical actuators and control units.
• Ability to follow detailed service bulletins and authorized documentation to install modifications and upgrades.
• Attention to detail and a strong focus on quality and compliance in all repair and testing activities.
• Effective communication skills to describe test bench usage, repair processes, and software-based task tracking during technical discussions and interviews.

Work Environment

You work in a large MRO facility within the components division, in a clean shop setting organized into sections based on aircraft system types. The schedule typically follows Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Friday, with occasional Saturday work possible. Shifts are structured as 10-hour shifts from 0500–1530 or 1530–0200, and you should be open to either schedule. The current shop operates on the 0500–1530 shift, with the potential addition of the 1530–0200 shift as the program expands. During your first week, you complete ATS and customer-specific training on day shift, totaling between 24 and 40 hours. You use precision electronic test equipment, Oracle-based software systems, and standard tools such as wire strippers, crimpers, soldering irons, and multimeters in a professional, process-driven environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Everett, WA.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
