Senior Scientist, Toxicology

Merck's Nonclinical Drug Safety department seeks a toxicologist to direct and monitor GLP and non-GLP toxicity studies from discovery through late development. The role involves serving as Study Director, analyzing safety data, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating across scientific teams to support drug candidate development.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Study Director on acute through chronic general toxicology studies across modalities
• Critically analyze and interpret toxicology data, integrating clinical pathology and pathology findings into regulatory reports
• Ensure regulatory compliance, protocol adherence, and timely study execution with proactive risk identification
• Build collaborative relationships across technical, veterinary, and scientific staff without direct authority
• Lead method development initiatives and participate in related scientific projects as needed

Requirements

• PhD in toxicology, pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, or related field
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and open communication skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, including presentations
• Listening and leadership skills
• GLP Study Director experience preferred
• Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (US FDA 21 CFR Part 58)
• Knowledge of ICH safety guidelines preferred

Compensation: $106,200–$167,200 base
