Director of Emergency Services

A Director of Emergency Services is needed at a 370‑bed hospital in San Antonio, TX (78212) that operates the largest emergency room in downtown San Antonio. The facility also includes a freestanding women's pavilion delivering nearly 3,000 newborns annually and an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence–designated weight loss and bariatric surgery program. The role. The Director of Emergency Services holds full accountability for the operational and clinical performance of the emergency department, including staffing, volume forecasting, patient flow coordination, and budget oversight. This leader drives evidence‑based practice adoption to advance patient safety and quality outcomes while managing clinical variation to improve efficiency and cost‑effectiveness. The director develops and enforces nursing standards, care coordination protocols, and interdisciplinary communication structures to ensure staff with the right competencies are aligned to patient care needs at all times. On the financial side, the role owns the annual budget process—including revenue and expense forecasting, labor management, productivity monitoring, and supply utilization—and is expected to identify and execute cost‑reduction opportunities. The director also partners with administrative leadership and physicians to sustain existing services and evaluate opportunities for new service line development. What we’re looking for.
