About the Role

The Manager, Community Voice helps turn Good Reason Houston’s community engagement strategy into action. Reporting to the Managing Director, Community Voice, this person creates clear, engaging communications and meaningful opportunities for parents, educators, and community members to connect, share their perspectives, and get involved.

The Manager supports initiatives such as Houston Loves Teachers and the Parent Action Network. They manage social media, newsletters, community outreach, events and activations, partner and vendor coordination, and the systems needed to keep projects organized and moving forward.

This role is a strong fit for an excellent communicator and project manager who can build trusted relationships, manage multiple projects, and deliver high-quality work from start to finish. By leading day-to-day execution, the Manager enables the Managing Director to focus on strategy, key relationships, and the department’s long-term direction.

Some community events will take place during evenings or weekends. These commitments will be planned in advance whenever possible, with appropriate schedule adjustments to support a balanced workload.

Primary Responsibilities 

Community Engagement, Events & Activations 

• Lead the full lifecycle of parent, educator, and community activations, including project plans, registration, venues, vendors, accessibility, supplies, staffing, run-of-show, on-site execution, participant communications, and follow-up.
• Manage delivery of meaningful parent and educator engagement touchpoints across the community.
• Execute Houston Loves Teachers activations, educator appreciation and connection events, and Parent Action Network convenings in alignment with initiative strategy and audience goals.
• Coordinate community-facing giveaways and recognition efforts, including sourcing, eligibility, inventory, documentation, fulfillment, and participant communications.
• Develop and maintain responsive working relationships with families, educators, community partners, and vendors, providing clear communication and dependable follow-through before, during, and after engagements.
• Create organized, welcoming, inclusive, and accessible experiences that reflect Good Reason Houston’s values; actively seek and incorporate diverse perspectives to improve the work.
• Work flexible hours, including planned evenings and weekends, as required for community engagement and event execution.

Project Management, Operations & Infrastructure 

• Manage projects from end to end and elevate barriers or strategic decisions to the Managing Director.
• Build and maintain the operating infrastructure for Community Voice, including the initiative calendar, CRM and engagement records, contact lists, insight logs, registration and intake workflows, templates, toolkits, standard operating procedures, file organization, and follow-up systems.
• Maintain the department’s operating rhythm through agendas, action items, deadline management, status updates, cross-functional handoffs, and after-action reviews.
• Coordinate vendor sourcing, scopes, contracts, deliverables, invoices, and payments in partnership with Operations and Finance and in alignment with organizational policies and financial controls.
• Track budgets, inventory, grant deliverables, participation requirements, and other resource needs; maintain accurate documentation and flag risks or variances early.
• Maintain reliable execution data, tools, vendor information, and process documentation that enable the Managing Director to assess capacity needs and make recommendations about future staffing, partnerships, funding, and scale.

Communications, Content & Audience Engagement 

• Manage content calendars and production workflows for Community Voice Initiatives, translating established narrative and audience priorities into timely, coordinated communications.
• Draft, edit, produce, and schedule clear and compelling social media content, newsletters, invitations, reminders, toolkits, event materials, recaps, and other audience-facing communications.
• Adapt messages, formats, tone, and calls to action for parents, educators, community partners, and other priority audiences across digital, email, social, and in-person channels.
• Support Houston Loves Teachers as a region-wide educator appreciation and engagement campaign through consistent content, campus activations, cohort communications, giveaways, and educator storytelling.
• Coordinate reviews with the Managing Director and Good Reason Houston’s brand and communications team, incorporate feedback, and ensure initiative content is accurate, compelling, audience-centered, and coherent with the organization’s broader external presence.
• Capture and organize approved stories, photos, quotes, feedback, and engagement insights in accordance with brand, consent, data, and privacy practices.

Community Intelligence, Measurement & Continuous Improvement 

• Maintain complete and accurate participation, engagement, sentiment, and follow-up records that enable the Managing Director to identify patterns and translate community insight into strategy.

• Support surveys, roundtables, listening sessions, and feedback loops, including logistics, data collection, documentation, and synthesis of recurring themes.
• Prepare concise progress updates and dashboards on delivery, reach, engagement, grant commitments, and initiative performance; use results and feedback to recommend practical improvements.
• Lead after-action reviews and convert lessons into improved tools, processes, participant experiences, and future execution.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Managing Director, Community Voice.

Qualifications and Key Attributes

• 3+ years of relevant professional experience, with meaningful responsibility for communications and community engagement as well as project management, event production, campaigns, or operations.
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple workstreams from planning through execution while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards.
• Experience planning community events, convenings, or activations and coordinating vendors, budgets, registration, logistics, and participant communications.
• Experience creating audience-facing content across social media, email, newsletters, event materials, toolkits, or similar channels and adapting communications for different audiences.
• Experience working with diverse stakeholders, ideally including parents, educators, community organizations, vendors, and cross-functional colleagues.
• Experience maintaining CRM, project management, registration, survey, or engagement-tracking systems preferred.
• Experience in nonprofit, education, civic engagement, organizing, public affairs, or Houston communities preferred.
